Wrestlr.Me HOW-TO For XMPP Service

Why Have XMPP?

First off, you have nothing to lose. Our XMPP service is absolutely free and will stay that way. XMPP is a decentralized communication protocol. There is no exact "central authority". Your XMPP account @wrestlr.me can be used on other XMPP servers and make friends with other people from other XMPP domains. If it were "similar" to anything else you could look at it like ICQ or AIM back in it's heyday except those weren't decentralized and were limited to that particular network. The intention of our XMPP service is to allow those tired of the idea of being connected to social media, watched, treated like numbers and statistics for advertising and spying purposes. We are trying to offer something you can trust. I am but one person, not a corporation that has interest in selling your information nor could I as the communications are encrypted and can be futher secured if you put in the effort to do so between your friends, such as OTR encryption. Our XMPP service natively supports OMEMO. This is an advanced feature WNS is offering but we have a few avenues that can make this easier on you such as enabling our On-Page Messenger, but enough talk. Let's break down how to use this.

Registering Your Free @Wrestlr.Me Account

First, go to our registration page and go through the process of selecting a username and password. You'll have to get through our Re-CAPTCHA verification so if you're on iPhone you may need to tilt your phone into landscape/widescreen mode to fit it on your phone properly. We are an open network, but we don't want spam either. After you sign up your username isn't simply how you would refer to yourself. Say your username is "batman" you would be "batman@wrestlr.me". It uses an e-mail type format but it isn't an e-mail at all. It's simply a way to direct your username to the correct domain/server as there are thousands of XMPP servers and millions of users who rely on XMPP for communication.

Options.. Connecting Your XMPP Account

You don't have to tie your XMPP account to WNS at all. You can keep it yourself if you want but what fun is that? If you add your account details to our customize WNS panel your XMPP address will be advertised on every comment you make on a WNS article and your host will appear as "@wrestlr.me", similar to our previous ability to tie in your facebook.com or twitter.com accounts. If you only add your details into the WNS customize panel that's all the account will do *ON* WNS. However you can download other programs to connect to your XMPP account to make friends and join chatrooms.

Here are some programs that allow use of XMPP:

Windows/Linux: Pidgin
Windows/Linux: Gajim
Android: Conversations
iOS: Monal

If you choose to download a program instead of enabling our On-Page Messenger you'll need to add your details as follows:
Domain/Server: wrestlr.me
Add your username and password and to participate in our XMPP GroupChat you add these chats:
wns@conference.wrestlr.me -or- Join our IRC via XMPP @ #wrirc@gateway.wrestlr.me

Using the WNS On-Page Messenger

This is the easiest option. All you need to do is add your details on the WNS Customize panel. Scroll until you see this portion of the panel below:Wrestlr.Me XMPP Details After that you'll see checkboxes to enable the application on WNS. You can enable them on both the website and forum. If you enable them on the forum you MUST use the "Custom WNS" forum theme by editing your profile and going to "Display" to change your theme. After you enable them for the website you'll get new menu links that you can use as a "one-click" option to get into the GroupChat and IRC. You can also allow messages from strangers (the most fun to allow) and see where that goes making new friends on WNS.

If you need help you can e-mail Krysti at coder@wrestlingnewssource.com - Please read the documentation here throughly before contacting. If you made it, got it working, add Krysti as a friend: ironfistmaiden@wrestlr.me
