Diamond Dallas Page has revealed the it was he who encouraged Randy Orton to use a variation of the Diamond Cutter, which for Orton has been his trademark āRKOā finisher since 2003.
During the latest edition ofĀ DDP Snake Pit podcast, DDP discusses how he told Randy Orton to use a variant of the Diamond Cutter.
"I know Iām done with WWE. Iām out of there. And I literally call Randy, and I didnāt realize he was a little loopy, but later on, I realized maybe he was. Heād just had surgery on his shoulder. Now, I didnāt know this at the time. And I was like, āhey, Randy. I just want to let you know that Iām getting out of the business. You donāt have a finish yet thatās really for you. I would love it if you used the Diamond Cutter.ā He was like āno, DDP, thatās yours.ā āNo, man. You, youāve got to be the guy.ā As time went on, I thought he remembered that conversation. But later, I heard some comments here and there.
Now, Iām at TV with him. Iām not working, Iām just there. Heās like, āhey, DDP, how you doing?ā āHey, Randy, good to see you.ā Cause Randyās like my guy, as far as the younger guys who were coming up then. And I loved that he had the affiliation of him doing a version of the Diamond Cutter. Whenever he did it, especially early on, people were thinking of me. But he put his own spin on it, and he came up with ways to do it that I couldnāt have done. Bottom line is, that day I see him at TV, I go, āRandy, Iāve got to talk to him for a second.ā āEverything alright?ā āYeah, itās okay, man, but I saw something that you had said. Donāt you remember me calling you and telling you?ā Heās like, āhonestly, Diamond? No, because you couldāve called right after my shoulder surgery.
Thatās the only thing I can think of.ā And he kind of did sound a little, āoh no. Thatās your thing.ā Thinking back he goes, ābut if you said I said it, if you say we had the conversation, we had the conversation.ā I go, āwell, Iām not making it up. I just find it really amazing that you didnāt remember. But just so you know dude, I love the fact that you did it and took it to another level.ā"
