MJF was recently interviewed by Ariel Helwani, where he discussed how he got into professional wrestling.
“The way I got introduced to pro wrestling, and I was about four [years old] at the time, I was over at my uncle’s house. It was a family get together at his beautiful, luxurious home. On the TV, it was Friday night, so there was SmackDown. I didn’t know it was SmackDown at the time. I’m getting a glimpse of what this stuff is and I’m just in absolute awe. I don’t remember exactly what I was watching but I was just in awe of these monstrous titans. I remember looking at my father as we went home and I was like ‘I just need to see more of this.’ So he took me to a Hollywood Video when I was very young and I grabbed just a bunch of DVD’s and there was one guy in particular who looked like a zombie and his hand was reaching out in the front. At the time, I didn’t know it was The Undertaker. So I bring that home and I put in the DVD and I read the back and on the back it says Hell In A Cell match. So the first match I ever watched, I think I was four turning five, was Mankind vs. The Undertaker in a Hell In A Cell match and I was absolutely floored.”
