WWE's official Twitter account put out a statement about a kayfabe injury suffered by Drew McIntyre.

"@DMcIntyreWWE suffered a cervical neck strain with severe contusions. Upon further evaluation by medical staff he will have a follow-up with an orthopedic cervical specialist."

It is being followed up by Fightful this angle is being used as a cover for a legitimate injury, the true details of which have yet to be revealed.

WWE wound up lengthening the Madcap Moss and Drew McIntyre bout, having McIntyre get taken out in a post-match attack to help keep him strong in defeat.

The report also states that Jeff Hardy's release threw a wrench into the creative plans.
