On this day five years ago, we received the sad news that we lost “The Ninth Wonder of the World” Chyna (Joan Laurer) at the age of 46 from an alcohol and drug overdose. The data of her death isn't entirely clear but this was the date the news was revealed to the world of pro-wrestling.
Chyna was one of the most memorable female names during WWF's Attitude Era, giving the male roster a run for their money. She would debut as the female bodyguard and real-life girlfriend of Hunter Hearst Helmsley before going on to become a member of the legendary D-Generation X.
She would make history as the first-ever female to hold the WWF Intercontinental Championship on two occasions, and the first to enter a men's Royal Rumble match in 1999. She also held the WWF Women's Championship.
Chyna departed the WWF in 2001.
She was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, as a member of D-Generation X in 2019.
