It was believed that Reed passed away from heart complications as he had two heart attacks prior to his death, but in an interview with FOX 4 Kansas City, Reed’s family revealed Butch tested positive for COVID-19 in January, and blame the virus for his passing.

“For me, I guess him being a brother, I didn’t pay too much attention to it because he was always great to me, because I was always looking t him on the football field or something. He’s always been great to me,” said Reed’s brother, Ronald Reed.
