On the most recent edition of "Something To Wrestle", Bruce Prichard revealed that the WWE did attempt to buy the UFC a few years back, as had been rumored at the time, but were outbid by the Fertitta Brothers.
"We actually had been in talks with Bob Meyrowitz, who owned the UFC, and Campbell McLaren and those guys, to purchase UFC before the Fertitas came in,” Prichard said. “So yeah, but he was looking to purchase what was the UFC at the time, which was no holds barred, a lot different than it is today. Now they have rules and different things, but it was a completely different animal back in the day. We had talked to them about purchasing them and taking over that company. Then the Fertitas came in and they just offered too much money."
