As seen on last night's WWE Raw, the company wrapped up their Draft for 2019. It is likely there will be some additional moves over the coming days and there has been a "major trade" teased which we should know more about soon.Â
As for who went where and why, Dave Meltzer revealed on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio his insider scoop.Â
Firstly, Carmella and R-Truth were broken up because USA wanted the 24/7 title as they came up with the idea and also Carmella is dating Corey Graves so that was why she went to the blue-brand.
Paul Heyman is reported to have got all his picks, except for Brock Lesnar who FOX apparently wanted because they will not be getting Ronda Rousey just yet, there is some speculation that Lesnar might be a place holder for Rousey and he could end up back on Raw at some stage in the future.
WWE officials have high hopes for Humberto Carillo who is being groomed as the next-generation Hispanic star. Buddy Murphey was one of Heyman's top picks and he is very high on him right and Aleister Black was another Heyman decision for Raw.
The Miz being moved to SmackDown was a change from what had been previously decided, Meltzer, speculates this was because of recent online leaks.Â
Baron Corbin went to SmackDown because Eric Bischoff is very high on him.
As for Luke Harper, he didn't get drafted but Meltzer notes that creative only really had plans for him up until the tag match at Hell in a Cell.
Meltzer also noted he was unsure why they decided to put Rey Mysterio on a different brand to Cain Velasquez. Time will tell.
Meltzer was surprised that Shorty (Chad) Gable wasn't drafted to Raw, given how high McMahon has been on him of late.
AoP are set to be exclusive to Raw, despite not being drafted.
It has been pointed out that Raw is loaded with talent that are not over and it is now Heyman's goal now to ensure he can make bigger names of talent such as Murphey, Black and Carillo.
As for this draft, it wasn't actually meant to happen until next year, the company had intended to keep the rosters as they were but given the need for ratings and the move to FOX they company felt it was the right time to hold one.
