Ring of Honor has published Matt Taven’s official statement following the news he will be staying with ROH.
Rumors have been swirling about Matt Taven’s contract status and what the future holds for him, but Taven made it clear at Death Before Dishonor Fallout in Las Vegas Saturday night that he isn’t going anywhere.
One night after losing the ROH World Title to RUSH at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view in Las Vegas, Taven — flanked by fellow Kingdom members Vincent and TK O’Ryan — stood in the same ring and delivered a heartfelt message.
Seven years ago when I came [to ROH], it was because this was the place to be,” Taven said. “It was because this was the most innovative, best wrestling on the planet, and I believed that at the time and I still believe that to this day. Ring of Honor from top to bottom is the best wrestling on the planet, and it’s undeniable.
“I want to tell each and every one of you that I am going nowhere. I am here to stay.”
Taven also told the fans that whether they love him or hate him, he has always given it his all to make sure they got their money’s worth.
It was a different side of Taven than fans are accustomed to seeing, and the crowd showed their appreciation by applauding him and chanting, “Thank you, Taven.”
Taven had surprised a lot of fans and observers Friday night by graciously shaking RUSH’s hand in the ring after losing the ROH World Title to him.
Before leaving the ring Saturday night, Taven — one of only two men in ROH to win the World Title, Television Title, Tag Team Title and Six-Man Title — said that he still has more to accomplish in ROH.
“The story of Matt Taven is far from done,” he said. “I have a lot more to prove to everyone here. I have a championship to get back. And this Kingdom will rise again.”
