The race to sign former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez to a professional wrestling brand is on.
The MMA star has had an impressive first two matches with AAA Lucha Libre which has got the wrestling world interested in him.
Dave Meltzer recently revealed on MMAFighting.com that Velasquez recently met with WWE officials but it’s not clear if a deal will be made. Velasquez has had some training at the Performance Center but has also expressed interest in All Elite Wrestling and has had talks with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Meltzer notes that Velasquez has a long term knee injury that would need surgery before he goes commits to long term plans and also he has some contractual obligations to UFC, but should he sign with WWE there are plans to have him go up against Brock Lesnar.
Velasquez defeated Lesnar in 2010 to win the UFC Championship.
