Legendary Mexican luchador Silver King (real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón) passed away today at the age of 51 during match against fellow lucha libre legend Juventud Guerrera in London, England.
According to a report from PWInsider.com and F4WOnline.com/The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Silver King delivered a Flying Clothesline to Guerrera and then tried to pin him for the 3-count but Guerrera kicked out. Guerrera then kicked Silver King near the collarbone and this was when King seemingly collapsed and became unresponsive. Guerrera managed to roll him onto his back for the pinfall, although the referee appeared to pause during the count, as this was not the planned finish of the match. The referee did complete the count though and ended the match.
Guerrera and the referee tended to Silver King immediately after the match, and other talents entered the ring as well. A defibrillator was used and King was rushed to the hospital, but was unable to be revived.
WNS would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Barrón.
