Bret Hart's Attacker: "I Just Felt Like It Was The Right Moment"

Posted By: Thomas Lowson on Apr 08, 2019

The man who attacked Bret 'Hitman' Hart during the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame "felt like it was the right moment" a court heard.

Zachary Madsen, 26, of Lincoln, Nebraska, faces two charges of assault, one count of criminal trespass and one count of violation of local law, for lunging at 61-year-old Hart around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Jumping the barricade, Madsen confronted Bret Hart during the former WWF Champion's second induction into the Hall of Fame, due to his work as part of the Hart Foundation.

Hart, 61, told officers that he suffered pain to his right hip, but was able to finish the speech.

Appearing at court yesterday, Madsen was held on $1,500 bond at his arraignment on assault and criminal trespassing charges in Brooklyn criminal court.

Defending, Madsen's lawyer urged the judge not to set bail, claiming Madsen had been "agreeable and cooperative" during the investigation and would struggle to come up with the money.

The judge also granted an order of protection against Madsen to Hart and the WWE security guard, Thaddeus Jones, who was also injured during the incident.

Fortunately, several WWE Superstars, including Dash Wilder and husband of Ronda Rousey, UFC star Travis Browne, were able to stop Madsen quickly.

In a statement, the WWE described Madsen as "over-exuberant fan"
