R-Truth's winning of the United States Championship on this week's edition of SmackDown Live was always planned, despite the controversial finish.
The match, which saw Truth upset newly-crowned champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, saw the rapping Superstar get a pinfall, with Nakamura kicking out on the three.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, this title change was the plan all along, with Meltzer questioning during Wrestling Observer Radio whether this poor refereeing was a dig at the NFL referees after officiating meant a call wasn't made for pass interference.
Nakamura had defeated Rusev to win the title on the Royal Rumble Kick-Off show last Sunday.
After his shocking title win, Truth successfully defended the title against the Bulgarian Brute.
