A fan-recorded video from the Greatest Royal Rumble, shows a mixture of cheers and boos to a promotional video showing female superstars.
The promo, highlighting WWE's upcoming dual branded Pay Per Views, was shown live at the show and prominently featured current SmackDown Live Women's Champion Carmella.
Due to Saudi Arabia's strict laws against women, WWE chose not to include female talent during their show, citing respect to other cultures.
According to a BBC report, the broadcast was cut off state TV during the video, but was still viewable to the live audience in the arena.
There was also controversy concerning Shawn and Ariya Daivari using the Iranian flag, with some calling it disrespectful, and other calling it a simple way to get heel heat.
