Vince McMahon and other senior WWE officials were said to be "blown away" by the social media response to Matt Hardy's Ultimate Deletion earlier this month, according to Sports Illustrated. During the broadcast of Raw, the hashtag (#UltimateDeletion) was trending solidly for a good three hours. The match was viewed as a big success which could pave the way for more matches of its kind down the line.
Prior to the match, WWE commentator Michael Cole had negative comments about the match which were believed to have been fed to him by Vince beforehand. There is a belief that McMahon wasn't confident about the match doing well, but that all changed when the social media response came back largely positive.
In addition, Hulu which broadcasts a 90-minute edition of Raw came under fire from fans not happy about their decision not to include the Ultimate Deletion match in their edited broadcast. It transpires however that Hulu does not make the edits to the show, therefore WWE again misjudged its success.
Below is a response Hulu tweeted to one disgruntled fan:
"Sorry for the disappointment, Shannon! We have the rights to stream a pre-formatted 90-minute special of Raw, and no edits are done on our end. We'll share your feedback with our team."
