It's been announced that former three-time WWE World Champion Rey Mysterio has signed on to join the Aro Lucha promotion as both a performer and a co-owner.
Aro Lucha is based out of Nashville, Tennessee and was founded by former WWE, WCW, ECW, and Impact Wrestling stars Ron and Don Harris, as well as a gentleman by the name of Jason Brown. The promotion has run some non-televised events in Texas. They have Konnan in charge of their Creative Department, and they've also used Vince Russo as a "script consultant" in the past.
In addition to the signing of Rey Mysterio, it's also been announced that Aro Lucha is going to be giving fans the opportunity to purchase minority stakes in the company.
Rey Mysterio gave the following statement to Tennessean.com:
"I think what we are doing with Aro Lucha being fan-owned is revolutionary," Mysterio said. "We are giving the fans something they have never had before, a voice and a chance to get in on the action."
Co-founder and CEO Jason Brown also spoke to Tennessean.com:
"This gives fans a chance to get in on the action, but more so than that it really gives them a voice," Brown said. "Especially at a company like ours, fans are so passionate. They critique every storyline, every character. Well we're able now to actually listen to them."
"We believe we have a product that fans will want to embrace, to really invest themselves in and something the whole family can enjoy," he said.
