As seen during Sunday's WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey appeared at tonight's WWE Royal Rumble event following the first-ever 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match.
Rousey has signed a multi-year WWE which she confirmed in an interview with ESPN. She noted that her time with WWE won't be a one-time deal or just for special events, "This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt," Rousey told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne of her decision to join WWE. "When I first met with Triple H, I told him, 'There are other things I can do with my time that'll make way more money, but I won't enjoy nearly as much.'"
WWE is currently looking to negotiate their television rights with TV networks over the next 12 months, so having Rousey long term will show the likes of NBC Universal, Fox and others in contention they can still grab mainstream headlines.
Another interesting fact about Rousey's appearance at the Rumble was the jacket she was wearing which was actually the legendary late Rowdy Roddy Piper's jacket given to her by his Son. She is also reportedly in the process of trademarking 'Rowdy Ronda Rousey' which feature on her new WWE merchandise.
Ronda Rousey explains her lifelong dream of becoming a WWE Superstar and her admiration for WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper before "dropping a big fat hint" about her intentions for WrestleMania 34.
