Asuka Relinquishes NXT Women's Championship

WWE has just announced via WWE.com that Asuka has officially relinquished the NXT Women's Championship to General Manager William Regal at tonight's NXT television taping at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.

Regal introduced Asuka to the crowd and Asuka stated how much she loves NXT. Regal then called Asuka is one of the greatest champions in the history of WWE before Asuka announced that she would be relinquishing the NXT Women's Championship because she was in negotiations with both Raw and SmackDown LIVE. The NXT roster then came out and applauded her before Triple H came to the ring and gave Asuka roses.

As previously reported, Asuka suffered a broken collarbone following her match with Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III and it's expected that it will take approximately six to eight weeks for her to fully recover. Following this, it is likely that Asuka will debut on either Raw or SmackDown LIVE.

Below is WWE's official announcement:

"NXT Women’s Champion Asuka relinquished her title to NXT General Manager William Regal tonight at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. After her dominant performance and historic 500-plus day reign as NXT Women’s Champion, The Empress of Tomorrow looks to her future for new opportunities in WWE, though no specific details are known at this time. Her reign will officially end on the date that her historic announcement airs.

To see this monumental shift in the landscape of NXT, tune in each Wednesday to the award-winning WWE Network."
