Players from Other Sports that Would Make Awesome Wrestlers

Every now and then, do you flick to another channel, and you see an athlete winding up for a pitch or flattening an opponent on their way to scoring a try or a touchdown, do you think to yourself “What would they be like in the ring?” We do. So, we decided to have a little look at other athletes that we think would make awesome wrestlers. And to make it a little more interesting, we left out both rugby and NFL because there’s just too many to choose from.

Let’s start with a bit of ice hockey. Those men really know how to throw themselves around on the ice, so there’s no shortage of passion in their game, but they’re not usually the biggest in terms of physique. An exception to this would be Boston Bruins’ current captain Zdeno Chára. He’s 6’9” and built well, and he’s got that aggressive side to his nature that would make him a real contender in a Royal Rumble. And there’s something about Eastern Europeans that put the fright in their opponents.

We couldn’t really come up with anyone in golf, so let’s skip that one for sure and head for baseball where we find Nate Freiman, a first baseman who stands at 6’8” and weighs in at 250 pounds in addition to not having a fear of putting his body on the line. A good man for a tag team, but we’re not sure he’s got the attitude to be alone.

We’re probably cheating a bit here by switching to MMA, but when we saw this guy a while back, we were simply dumbfounded. His name is Hong-Man Choi and he’s a South Korean fighter that towers over everyone in his path. His familiarity with fighting moves would make him an easy draft for the WWE, but even if the guy were a burger flipper, we’d still be clamoring for the powers that be to get him in the ring. Sign the guy up!

Now, this next one might come a bit out of left field but bear with us. Tennis is our next port of call, and we’re going with Serena Williams to kick some butt in the ring. She’s full of confidence, a born winner, and looks like she could take down Paige in a pinch. There aren’t many female sports stars around the world that you could say that about.

And then we come to soccer, or football, depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on. There are many that would do the WWE justice with their presence. Ibrahimovic with his incredible air of self-confidence, Hulk simply for his name, and Pepe for being a bit, well a bit Pepe really. If you’re not familiar with his aggressive style of play, then you don’t know what you’re missing.

But then there’s the one they call “The Beast” because he pretty much is one. At 5’11” Adebayo Akinfenwa isn’t the tallest, but he is massively muscled and built like a tank. His current team Wycombe Wanderers aren’t really up to much — BetStars have them at 20/1 to win the fourth tier of English soccer — so signing him up might not be all that difficult. And he’s got the name already: The Beast!

So aside from the NFL and Rugby, what other sports have players in their ranks that would add a little something to WWE? Are we forgetting some good ones? Let us know in the comments below.
