Backstage News on John Cena's Upcoming Role in WWE

As previously reported, 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena is currently being labeled as a "free agent" by WWE, which would suggest that he is not technically assigned to Raw or SmackDown at this point. It's being reported that one idea that has been brought up backstage in WWE Creative is for Cena to appear on both Raw and SmackDown, at least for a while.

This is due to a backstage panic that has arisen because of the recent lackluster ratings, particularly Raw's ratings. The hope is that a truly big-name star like Cena can help bring up the ratings at least a little bit for both brands.

It's not yet known what exactly WWE has planned for Cena when he returns to action, but one might assume that they would put him in a role where they could try to get the most they can out of his star power in order to boost up the viewership for both Raw and SmackDown Live.
