Photo Of Chris Benoit Used In UK-Based Potato Chip Social Ad Campaign

A recent social advertising campaign by UK-based Walkers potato chip company has backfired in tremendous fashion.

The campaign asked individuals to submit selfies via Twitter, which would then be featured in the "#WalkersWave". The photos submitted would then be featured doing a Mexican wave. The top prize in the campaign was to be Champions League tickets.

However, some people seem to have taken advantage of the campaign by submitting photos of individuals including child molesters, murderers, and terrorists. One of the photos submitted included former WCW and WWE star Chris Benoit, who murdered his wife, Nancy, and son, Daniel, back in 2007 before taking his own life.

Other individuals whose images were submitted included Russian dictator Josef Stalin, serial killer Harold Shipman, ex-BBC star Jimmy Saville (who faced multiple allegations of sexual abuse dating back to 1963), mass murderer Fred West, and Peter Sutcliffe, otherwise known as the infamous "Yorkshire Ripper."

An official spokesperson for Walkers Crisps released the following statement regarding the incident:

"We recognise people were offended by irresponsible and offensive posts by individuals, and we apologise. We are equally upset and have shut down all activity."
