Backstage News Regarding The Upcoming Mae Young Classic

This past week, WWE confirmed that the Mae Young Classic will be taping at Full Sail University on Thursday July 13 and Friday July 14. This single elimination women's tournament will feature 32 wrestlers from around the world

According to PWInsider, current plans are, besides the talent roster, to have a strong female presence during the tournament. There have been discussions with the possibility of using female announcers. An example of this would be 2 female announcers and 1 male announcer. As of yet, there has been no confirmation on who the female announcers will be. However, there is the possibility of going with Renee Young and Charly Caruso or perhaps a guest Hall of Famer such as Lita or Beth Phoenix. IT is already known that Hall of Famer Jim Ross will be working the announce table that week

There has also been discussions regarding the use of female referees for the tournament. It was noted a few weeks back that indy wrestler Kennadi Brink was signed as a referee by WWE. It is likely that she will officiate some of the matches however there has been no word on whether or not another referee will be brought in

It has been confirmed by WWE that the tournament will be taped on July 13 and 14 however no air date has been set. It is, however, known that the tournament will air later in the summer and plans are to release 3 or 4 episodes at a time rather than 1 episode a week. There are also plans to air a live special on the WWE Network with the tournament finals on Tuesday August 29 however there is possibility of a date change
