Jinder Mahal's huge win on Smackdown Live last week was one that sent the internet into a frenzy. As soon as Mahal pinned the beloved Sami Zayn for a 3 count, #JinderMahal began trending worldwide. It was a surprise moment that sent the minds of fans thinking of what the plans are going forward with the WWE Championship. This moment was not the original plan that WWE had set in place.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plan for WWE Backlash was to have Baron Corbin challenge Randy Orton for The Viper's recently won WWE Title. The plan was changed and Jinder Mahal was called upon to step in to that spot as number one contender. Meltzer said the decision was a part of their push in the India market. The Indian viewership is in the top 3 of the WWE's demographic. The push of Mahal could mean even bigger numbers for the blue brand.
