Thirty years ago today Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant met in the middle of the Pontiac Silverdome in front of 93,000 screaming fans for Wrestlemania III. At the time the event that was labeled "biggest main event in sports entertainment" and remains one of the most significant in WWE history.
The match came to fruition in months prior, when Andre the Giant turned on his buddy Hogan, challenging him to a title match at WrestleMania. Andre, who had been undefeated in the WWF for 15 years had the odds stacked in his favor, Hogan on the other hand had an unimaginable mountain to climb.
In the opening of the match Hogan attempted to slam Andre but it was to no avail. Andre would dominate most of the match and it seemed as if The Giant would remain undefeated and win the WWF Championship.
However, Hogan gained moment in the final minutes of the match slamming Andrew in a "slam heard ’round the world" in what would become one of the most iconic moments in WrestleMania history.

Hogan went on to win the match and hand Andre the Giant the first loss in his WWF tenure.
