The rating for ITV's reboot of World of Sport Wrestling on Christmas Eve drew 1.25m viewers, with a 7.27% share. This is a considerably low number for ITV, although numbers for other popular shows were down across the board being as it aired on New Years Eve.
The show that aired prior had 2.13m viewers while Ninja Warrior afterward had 2.08m. It would seem a lot of people tuned out when WOS hit the air. It should be noted Ninja Warrior UK returned for its third series with 2.1 million viewers, it's lowest rating ever and down 2 million on last year's series premiere.
The fact WOS was returning after 30 years off air might be the saving grace as to whether it gets recommissioned in 2017. In more positive news it will have also been the most-watched pro wrestling show in the United Kingdom, given WWE is on Sky Sports which requires a subscription.
The real concern going forward is that ITV is a highly competitive network and should WOS make a full-time return in 2017 a million viewers will not be enough to keep it on the air in a primetime slot.
