The Other Guy In CM Punks UFC Debut, Mickey Gall

Entering UFC 203 this Saturday September 10^th all of the buzz is centered around former WWE Champion CM Punk as he makes his UFC debut. With Punk’s stardom that comes as no surprise, but what about the other guy? Does anyone even know his name? His name is Mickey Gall.

The 24 year old welterweight is entering UFC 203 with a 2-0 record and is more than a 3-1 favorite to beat Punk in his debut. In an interview with ESPN Gall stated:

“I think I should be the favorite. Also, I think he should be getting more of the attention. He is the superstar. But I’m the real deal fighter. It’s great the UFC didn’t put him with the green Power Ranger or some schlub.”

Gall is a real deal fighter for sure. His 2-0 record comes by 2 submission victories and both fights combined only lasted 3 minutes and 38 seconds. The second of the two, which was his UFC debut, lasted only 45 seconds as he won by rear naked choke.

Even though Gall is the more polished of the two fighters UFC and MMA fans know that anything can happen when two guys step into the octagon. What if CM Punk wins? That will be a hard pill to swallow for a young guy who is only in his second UFC bout. What if Mickey Gall wins? It might be hard for a 37 year old rookie to come back from that. We might not see Punk come back at all if that were the case. Both men have a lot to gain and a lot to lose.

Regardless of who wins it will be a fight worth watching. Get your popcorn ready, reserve a spot on the sofa and tune in to UFC 203 from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland this Saturday September 10^th.
