Netflix has ordered ten episodes of the news series G.L.O.W which has been inspired by the 80s wrestling promotion Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, according to TVLine.
The scripted comedy series was created by Jenji Kohan who also created the hugely popular Netflix original, Orange is the New Black.
Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, also known as GLOW or G.L.O.W. was an exclusive promotion for women which begun in 1986 and continued after it left the screen in the form of live events and parties. The show featured Colorful characters, beautiful women, and over-the-top comedy sketches. Most of the performers were actresses, models, dancers, and/or stunt women hoping to get into show business through wrestling.
Netflix’s reboot will be set in Los Angeles and showcasing “big hair and body slams” is being dubbed a “fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.”
