WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has been declared “mentally incompetent” by his legal defense team, who are claiming he will not be able to stand trial for the 1983 death of then-girlfriend Nancy Argentino.
Snuka appeared in the Allentown court room in front of judge Kelly Banach who heard from members of Snuka's defense team, who told Banach that Snuka, aged 72 has received decades of blows to the head, resulting in dementia, as well as years of alcohol and substance abuse that he is unable to recall even basic background information.Â
Frank M. Dattilio, a forensic psychologist hired by the defense, testified that Snuka is a "shell of a man" whose brain is damaged beyond repair from years of wrestling stunts, and who is suffering from dementia that is "worsening by the month."
Dattilio went on to tell Judge Banach that Snuka's brain is shrinking, causing serious memory loss.
"He certainly has multiple problems," Dattilio said. "He is unable to understand the legal process."
Dattilio also said the pressure of a trial "would cause a severe erosion of [Snuka's] emotional state."
It was determined that the retired wrestler repeatedly assaulted the 23-year-old Argentino at the George Washington Motor Lodge in Whitehall Township and then left her in bed to die.
The fresh charges against him  came to light after a 2013 Morning Call investigation on the 30th anniversary of Argentino's death that uncovered a previously unseen autopsy report that concluded the case should have been investigated as a homicide.
The case remains ongoing, we'll have more updates soon.
