In addition to the release of Alex Riley, Hornswoggle, Zeb Colter, El Torito, Women's Wrestler Cameron and Santino. WWE has released Wade Barrett.
Wade Barrett who has been working under a King Barrett gimmick since winning the King Of The Ring reportedly asked for his release from the company earlier this year and has been waiting until his contract ends - WWE agreed to end it early. Barrett competed on the first season of NXT, with Chris Jericho as his mentor in 2010 and would go on to win a WWE contract. On the 7 June 2010 edition of Raw, Barrett was the leaderof an attack by the NXT rookies, as they interfered in the main event match between John Cena and CM Punk - It has been reconsigned as one of the most shocking debuts of a group of wrestlers in WWE history.
Barrett would go on to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship (5 times), a Slammy Award and most recently the 2015 King of the Ring.
Below is the official WWE statement on the releases:
"WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstars King Barrett, Santino Marella, Cameron, Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, El Torito and Zeb Colter as of today, Friday, May 6, 2016. WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors."
