In addition to the release of Alex Riley, Hornswoggle, Zeb Colter, El Torito and Women's Wrestler Cameron. WWE has released Santino Marella.
Santino Marella's time with the company goes back all the way to 2005 where he trained at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), a developmental territory for WWE. He made his debut on the April 16, 2007 episode of Raw from Milan, Italy and won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a shocking fashion. He would go on to become one of WWE's most beloved comedy wrestlers winning the WWE United States Title, WWE Tag Team Championship and also Miss WrestleMania!
Santino announced his retirement from the ring on July 6 at a house show in Toronto, Ontario following a third neck injury.
Below is the official WWE statement on the releases:
"WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstars Santino Marella, Cameron, Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, El Torito and Zeb Colter as of today, Friday, May 6, 2016. WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors."
Worry not my friends for the next chapter shall be even greater! It was a dream come true, thank you #WWE
