Combat Zone Wrestling returned last night, live and on iPPV, to the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ for Tangled Web 8.
Pre-show dark matches:
Rex Lawless (aka Poseidon) with “Sea Friends” (two people in blue bodysuits, possibly students) defeated Frankie Pickard and DUB Boys. The match was OK but hopefully the Sea Friends gimmick is a one and done.
Lio Rush defeated Aaron Williams by pinfall
Tangled Web 8 main show:
Neiko Sozio defeated Pepper Parks by pinfall after a Yakuza Kick
AR Fox defeated Joe Gacy via a rollup, after Tim Donst interfered against Gacy.
Team Tremendous (Bill Carr and Dan Barry) World Tag Team Titles, defeating The Beaver Boys (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) via rollup with a bridge
Joey Janela defeated Tim Donst to win the CZW Wired Title via a clutch (assisted by a chair)
Greg Excellent defeated Dick Justice to “win” the honorary Junior Heavyweight title via submission. Post-match, Excellent walked out on Chrissy Rivera, starting the beginning what looks like a heel turn.
MASADA defeated Rory Gulak via pin combo with bridge
JT Dunn defeated David Starr by pinfall after Death By Elbow
Matt Tremont defeated BLK Jeez to retain the CZW World Heavyweight Title
DY Hyde basically admitted to the Voorhees crowd that the main event of Cage of Death was originally supposed to be Nick Gage vs. Matt Tremont, but that planned match has been derailed due to Gage’s legal issues. He then says there’s no #1 contender. So he announces former CZW World Heavyweight Champion MASADA, former CZW World Junior Heavyweight and CZW Wired TV Champion AR Fox; former CZW Wired TV, CZW World Heavyweight Champion, and World Tag Team Champion Devon Moore in a four way against Matt Tremont for the CZW World heavyweight Title as the Cage of Death main event.
In the Tangled Web match which saw barbed wire ropes, barbed wire boards, a scaffold, ironing boards, and glass panels, a table of carpet strips, and everything short of cruise missiles and drones; Nation Of Intoxication (Conor Claxton, Danny Havoc, Devon Moore, and Lucky 13) defeated OI4K (Alex Colon, Dave Crist, Eric Ryan, and Jake Crist) after Devon Moore pinned Jake Crist.
This was Jake Crist’s last Flyers Skate Zone show, DJ Hyde announced that Crist is leaving Combat Zone Wrestling after the November 7 show in Dayton, OH. Crist has had back issues in the past, no word if that’s the case here. Hyde put over Crist’s work in the ring and behind the scenes for CZW.
Combat Zone Wrestling travels across the border to Laval, QU for Freedom To Fight, a joint show with International Wrestling Syndicate on October 17. Maven Bentley Association and CZW will present an Alzheimer’s Association benefit on October 25th in Woodbury Heights, NJ; will return to Dayton, OH on November 7 for Cerebral; and will return to Voorhees, NJ on November 21 for the go home show for Cage of Death, Night of Infamy.
