Every week I read thru many wrestling forums, and pages at what topics wrestling fans are talking, arguing, and debating about. Each week on Saturday I will pick some of the ones that stuck with me and discuss them. I know many would say these forums are just tools for the IWC, this may be true but if you have a computer and are a fan of wrestling, and have ever shared your opinion then that makes you a member of the IWC.
“King Kong Bundy recently said that Bret Hart and HBK were terrible World Champions, discuss respectfully”. This was a post made in a closed group on facebook called “We Love Pro Wrestling”. The group has over 50,000 members. The conversation took off, many things were said about Bundy mostly all insulting him for saying such a thing, and degrading him for sharing an opinion. Comments such as “he was a nobody”, “Bundy was nothing if not for Heenan building him up”. Many other things were said about the comments Bundy made. Let’s get something straight I do not agree with him, but that said, who am I to disagree with him. Bundy was in the ring with many of the greats. To list some Hulk Hogan, Rick Rude, the Von Erichs, Million Dollar man and more. I know Bret and HBK were not the same size as other men that he had faced and liked to work with; maybe this is why he has formed this opinion. I do know this; he does not deserve to be degraded for his opinion. He dedicated his life to wrestling, and entertained millions of people.
“The Undertaker photo” There is a photo floating around the internet of the Undertaker. This photo is of him in shorts a yellow sweatshirt and a camouflage hat. He looks tired, his beard is graying, and of course he is not in a wrestling ring, he is sitting on a chair at the airport. This picture has raised speculation that he is out of shape, still injured, and most certainly not going to wrestle any time soon. The simple statement here is “it’s a picture”. After looking at the photo for a few minutes I could tell whatever time of day it was it was dark, so early morning or night time. Either of these times someone could most certainly look tired and drained. Gray hair can be died; I know a 28 year old with gray hair. Please let the Undertaker be, what bothered me the most was the person that originally took the picture had been the one to post it and talk about how awful he had looked. Where is the respect? This man let you take his picture and pose for you, and you disrespect him. I think this is just a picture and if we see the Undertaker again he will be in great shape and ready to go, he always has been, it’s what we expect from such a professional.
“HHH should be running WWE” I cannot count how many times I have seen this statement. We have even seen a news article about the WWE talent wanting him to run WWE and have the final say on creative. I do not know how factual that article was because there are many versions. I do know these comments have picked up sin NXT Revolution. HHH is doing a great job in NXY, but let’s be honest you cannot compare the two. The creative team for the Main roster is filling seven hours of television a week, the NXT team only one (not counting the specials they sometimes run). Filling seven hours of television is not the same as one hour. I think it is very unfair to compare the two. Now I will agree the NXT product is fun to watch and has some very good young wrestlers. We can say that Vince is out of touch because of the gimmicky wrestling he provides us. I know a big complaint is the current use of Adam rose. In NXT his character Leo Kruger was very well received, now we get the flamboyant party animal Adam Rose. But, lets really look at it, they have been building a story (although very slowly). I am not saying HHH could not do a good job with the main roster if he had the final say on creative, but he is making the final decision on 1/7 of the TV Vince is, let’s slow down, and see where things go for now.
Finally this is one of my last columns of 2014. I would like to thank all that have read my columns and shared their feedback, positive or negative. I look forward to getting more feedback from all of you. Writing is not easy and sharing your opinion can sometimes be intimidating. I am always looking for new ideas of what to write, and am interested in hearing what you the readers want to see, so feel free to share your opinions and ideas with me on twitter @Hydden_View
