We start with the normal re-cap video of all the events that have led up to tonight’s episode.
Matt Stryker welcomes us into the Temple, Matt claims Social Media has been a buzz for tonight’s Ladder match. Vampiro says his twitter is blowing up.
My View: Hyping the $100,000.00 ladder match is very important; this is the biggest match in Lucha Undergrounds short history. Plugging social media is another great idea; I would have put their social media links on the screen though.
In the ring Melissa Santos introduces King Cuerno. Stryker says he makes all his moves of instinct. Melissa Santos then introduces Super Fly. Vampiro says Super Fly has made his mark in Mexico the last 4 or 5 years, he also says people all around the world are copying him.
Super Fly vs. King Cuerno
Cuerno starts of the match with a clothesline, and then kicks Super Fly on the mat. Stryker mentions Super Fly is part of a four person team in Mexico and Super Fly has been picked to represent the team here in Lucha Underground. Cuerno hits a big back body drop on Super Fly. We see Drago perched high above the arena, the same place Cuerno perched and watched him. Cuerno then hits a huge drop kick, then a clothesline; he goes for a pin but gets a two count. They exchange some moves and Super Fly connects with a head scissors takedown. Cuerno gets the upper hand again, and hits another drop kick. Vampiro says Super Flys has spent more time in Japan and has a little more experience than most of the Luchadores they have seen, and that Super Fly is rougher. Cuerno posses over Super Fly, he then throws Super Fly of the ropes, Super Fly does a handspring and dives over Cuerno, after a few moves to avoid Cuerno, Super Fly hits a springboard arm drag takedown. Stryker mentions that Super Fly defeated the legendary Super Calo in a mask vs. mask match. King Cuerno goes to the outside and Super Fly hits a dive to the outside. Super Fly throws Cuerno back into the ring. Super Fly goes for a suplex, Cuerno does a standing switch and throws Super Fly of the ropes and hits a double knee to the chest. Cuerno then hits a kick to the back of Super Flys head, and then hits the “Big Game” for the pin as he stares at Drago.
Winner: King Cuerno
After the match Drago does the “slit your throat” motion to Cuerno.
My View: This match was dominated by Cuerno, which I found interesting because Vampiro said how much tougher and experienced he was then some of the other Luchadores. That comment makes them all look weak compared to Cuerno. If this is a true statement though, it may explain some of the botched moves from the high flyers. They did well continuing the story between Drago and Cuerno. I was also surprised how much they hyped Super Fly just to have him squashed by Cuerno
Back from a break a video airs, it starts off by talking about lucha libre. It talks about how lucha libre is a combination of all the fighting styles. The narrator then starts to talk about Pentagon Jr. and how he thought he had it made in Mexico. Pentagon then learned he had to go to Japan to learn how to fight and win. Now Pentagon is better than any warrior from Japan, and that he has zero fear.
My View: We have seen Pentagon Jr. for a view weeks this was a nice video hyping him. I have said it before but Lucha Underground does great with these video packages.
Back in the ring Melissa Santos introduces Chavo Guerrero accompanied by Pentagon Jr. Vampiro mentions that Pentagon Jr. has said he is not affiliated with anyone but when Chavo reached out he decided that was the rub he needed. Melissa Santos introduces Fenix who is accompanied by Sexy Star.
Chavo Guerrero vs. Sexy Star
Back from the break Chavo and Fenix start in the ring. Vampiro mentions Fenix was rookie of the year. Chavo puts Fenix in a headlock; Fenix then fights back to his feet. The crowd is doing dueling chants of “let’s go Fenix” and “let’s go Chavo”. Fenix hits a kick and drives Chavo into the ropes. Fenix then bounces of the rope and charges into a boot from Chavo. Fenix then hits a drop kick and goes for a pin and gets a two count. Fenix puts a “fuji mara” arm bar on Chavo; he fights back to his feet. Fenix hits a head scissors takedown, but Chavo gets back to his feet first. Vampiro says Fenix is playing with the crowd to much. Chavo throws him over the top rope but Fenix lands on the ring apron. Fenix hits a springboard double knee but Chavo rolls thru for a single leg Boston crab. Vampiro is telling Chavo to lock it in. Fenix gets to the ropes for a break. Chavo goes to the outside and pulls Fenix into the ring post by his legs. Vampiro says he loves the tennis match between the fans, in regards to the dueling chants. Back in the ring Chavo goes for a pin and gets a two count. Stryker says pentagon Jr. Wants respect so why team up with Chavo who has the least respect in the locker-room. Vampiro says Pentagon has a dark vibe but is making poor career choices. In the ring Fenix is back to his feet but gets knocked back down by Chavo. Fenix takes Chavo to the outside; he goes to the top and jumps onto Pentagon and Chavo. Fenix throws Chavo back into the ring. Fenix goes to the top turn buckle, he jumps off and gets kicked by Chavo, and Chavo gets a two count. Chavo continues to work on the knee of Fenix. Fenix hits a springboard kick from the top rope, he then goes to the top rope but gets pulled down by Pentagon Jr. Chavo goes to the top and hits a huge splash and get the pin for the win. Vampiro say good for Chavo, Stryker ask him why he’s rooting for Chavo. Vampiro says because Fenix was arrogant and didn’t go for the pin.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
After the match Sexy Star grabs the microphone and says she is not done with Chavo. She says Blue Demon is coming back for Chavo.
My View: This match was good, and well wrestled. I am very confused by Vampiro, is he a heel commentator or not? Also as Chavo and Pentagon were exiting we saw movie star Danny Trejo, but the announcers said nothing.
Back from the break Stryker says every week we meet new luchadores we just saw Super Fly now let’s meet Cage. A video airs featuring Cage, he says he is not a superhero and there is no special powers running thru his blood. He says this is real not make-believe. Cage says he doesn’t come from a family of warriors or luchadores, all he has is what you see here. He says he wins because he wants it more, he is not a man he is a machine.
My View: another nice video, for those who are not aware cage is independent star Brian Cage that has spent some time in both WWE and TNA.
Back in the ring Melissa Santos describes the rules for the $100,000.00 Ladder match. Big Ryck comes out first. Vampiro mentions the weight of Ryck and his size. Next out is Johnny Mundo, Stryker mentions the key that Mundo is wearing and stole from Cueto last week. Out last is Puma who is accompanied by Konnan. Vampiro refers to a cancer that pollutes Pumas mind.
Big Ryck vs. Prince Puma vs. Johnny Mundo $100,000.00 Ladder match
(This match is going to be very action packed I will try my best to keep up) In the ring we see all three men staring up at the briefcase. The bell rings and Puma and Mundo quickly attack Ryck. Stryker mentions the first ladder match was held in Stampede Wrestling, and it was brought to prominence in the U.S by HBK and Razor Ramon. Big Ryck is taken to the outside and Mundo attacks Puma. They exchange blows and Mundo hits a huge kick, he then hits the shining wizard running knee. Mundo goes for the ladder but is taken down from behind by Ryck. Stryker now acknowledges Danny Trejo but calls him Machete. Ryck beats Mundo down on the outside. Ryck sets a ladder up on the ring apron; Puma does a baseball slide into the ladder taking Ryck out. Puma goes to the outside and throws the ladder into the ring. Stryker says many feel the first match between Puma and Mundo was the match of the year. In the ring Mundo pulls Puma of from the ladder, they exchange some moves. Puma gets the upper hand with some huge right hands. Puma climbs the ladder again but is cut off by Mundo, Ryck renters the ring and dumps them both of the ladder; he then collapses the ladder and uses it as a weapon to take out both men. Ryck then goes to climb the ladder but acts like he is scared so he calls out Cisco and Cortez. Cisco and Cortez start to climb the ladder. Mundo and Puma get back to their feet and both kick Ryck in the back of the head. They throw Cortez to the outside. Puma and Mundo then dump Cisco from the ladder to the outside onto Cortez and Ryck (15 ft at least). Vampiro says he got dropped on his ass. In the ring Mundo and Puma exchange some moves, Mundo gives a back body drop to Puma, Puma lands on a ladder that that had landed on the ring ropes. Mundo resets the ladder on the ropes and dives off onto Ryck and his henchman. Vampiro says by doing that and not going for the money shows that Mundo is a show boat and an addict for the applause and he does not deserve to win the money. Mundo sets up two tables outside, Stryker makes an ECW reference. Outside the ring Mundo climbs a ladder he set up. Puma climbs to the top rope and fights Mundo at the top of the ladder. Puma knocks him off onto the ring apron. Puma goes to dive onto Mundo who is on the ring apron, Mundo ducks and Puma lands on Ryck, Cisco, and Cortez. Mundo then pushes the ladder onto Puma. Mundo jumps of the ring apron but Puma runs under him and dives into the ring and quickly tries to set up a ladder, but is stopped by Mundo. They have a tug of war with the ladder. Mundo ends up losing and getting pinned by the ladder in the corner. Puma kicks Mundo in the head, grabs another ladder, and quickly ascends it. Mundo gets to his feet and climbs the opposite side. They exchange blows on the ladder. Puma hits the ace crusher from the top of the ladder, the crowd chants “holly shit”. Big Ryck comes in and destroys Puma. Ryck then clobbers Mundo as Cortez and Cisco set up a ladder. Cisco and Cortez work on Mundo as they drive his head into the ladder, Ryck throws Puma to the outside. The crowd starts chanting “this is awesome”. Puma is back in the ring, he tries to fight back, so does Mundo but Ryck continues to dominate. Vampiro says this no longer about the money, but whose heart and pride is stronger. In the ring Ryck, Cisco, and Cortez continue to attack Mundo. Cisco and Cortez set Mundo up on the top rope, they try to hit a suplex onto the tables outside but Mundo knocks Cortez to the mat. Mundo then gets down onto the ring apron and grabs Cortez and throws him thru the tables as Stryker says “Signs of Ric Flair”. Back in the ring Ryck and Mundo both pick up ladders and throw them into each other. Ryck and Mundo exchange blows. Puma comes in and does a double knee springboard onto Mundo. Ryck goes to clothesline Puma but Puma ducks under. Puma then knocks Ryck down as Cortez attacks Puma. Vampiro mentions Ryck looks gassed (exhausted). Cortez sets Puma up on the top rope; Cortez climbs up and looks as if he wants to suplex Puma onto a table that is set up in the ring. Puma blocks Cortez then knocks him of the turnbuckle. They both climb back to the top, Puma jumps up and drives his knees into the chest of Cortez which drives Cortez thru a table. Puma quickly gets taken out when Mundo slams a ladder into his head. Mundo begins to climb the ladder. Big Ryck knocks him down; they then fight over the ladder. Mundo climbs to the top rope and does a cork screw dive over the top of the ladder onto Ryck. Ryck is lying on the ladder in the corner and Mundo hits the “end of the world” onto Ryck. Puma then climbs to the top rope and hits the 630 dive onto Ryck. Puma then hits a huge kick to the back of the head of Mundo. Puma sets a ladder up on the ring ropes in the corner and rolls Mundo back into the ring. He lays Mundo onto the ladder. Mundo and Puma fight on the ladder, Puma then drives Mundos head into the ladder. Puma jumps off onto Ryck in an attempted hurricanrana but Ryck Catches him and gives him a power bomb, Ryck holds on and picks Puma up again, only to power bomb him onto Mundo who is still laying on the ladder. Ryck choke slams Mundo onto the mat, and then Ryck then goes and kicks Puma. Stryker says Mundo will be peeing blood for a week. Ryck picks Puma up and gorilla press slams him onto a ladder that was set up from the ring apron to the ring barrier outside, the ladder snaps in half. The crowd chants “holly shit” as Ryck sets up two ladders in the ring. Stryker acts as if the match is over and starts to sign off. Mundo enters the ring and starts to climb the ladders, as Ryck acts scared again. Mundo knocks Ryck down and continues to climb for the briefcase. Someone jumps in the ring, they are wearing a mask and Vampiro acts as if it’s a fan. The person destroys Mundo and knocks him to the outside. He takes the mask off and Stryker says he has seen him before. Mundo pulls the man to the outside. The man encourages Ryck to climb the ladder. Mundo fights with the man outside. Back in the ring Ryck, Cortez, and Cisco set up the ladder. Ryck fights Mundo off but eventually gets knocked to the outside himself. Mundo jumps of the top rope onto the ladder and knocks Cortez and Cisco down. Johnny then reaches up and grabs the briefcase and wins the match and $100,000.00.
Winner: Johnny Mundo
After the match Dario Cueto comes out and congratulates Mundo. Cueto says now he has been paid he hopes they can have a lucrative partnership, he says as long as Mundo does the right thing and gives him back the insurance policy, meaning the key. Johnny grabs a microphone and says “you mean this key”. Cueto says Mundo got paid he held up his end of the deal, so Mundo must do the same. He tells Mundo to put the king around his neck, and Mundo says ok. Mundo hits Cueto with the key and lays him out in the ring. As we go off the air Johnny leans over Cueto.
My View: This match was action packed, and had to be very pleasing to the fans. The match created new storylines for Mundo, but not sure where this leaves Puma. I thought brining up HBK was weird for Stryker to do because the one wrestler Johnny Mundo has been compared to the most is HBK. Mundo himself has stated he wants to shake that comparison. The wrestler that ran in was B-Boy as I am assuming this was his debut.
Overall Show: Vampiro focused much off the night calling the high flyers show boaters, not sure how this helps the talent get over. Stryker is making many historical references, almost as Mike Tenay did when the cruiserweights first debut in WCW. Once again a great show, they could do so much more if they were given more than an hour. Thanks for following along, see you next time in the temple.
