ROH Begin Pulling Talent From Independent Appearances
Posted By: Jason Patrick on Nov 19, 2014
As we reported last week, according to Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net, Ring of Honor upper-management - Sinclair Broadcasting - were discussing the process of beginning to remove all ROH contracted talent from independent appearances, including Pro Wrestling Guerilla, out of Reseda, California. We can now confirm that this report is true and that ROH has began contacting independent promoters notifying them that their talent are hereby pulled from independent appearances.
Hours after this, AJ Petrucci of independent CORE Wrestling out of Pennsylvania posted on their Tumblr page that ROH World Tag Team Champions, reDRagon, were pulled from an upcoming show at the end of the month.
While many will criticize this move by ROH, Absolute Intense Wrestling co-owner Chris Bryan has defended their decision, saying that all the talent knew what they were signing when they signed their new contracts and that the pay they're receiving justifies the events they're being pulled from. It should be noted however that this move will only affect ROH talent who signed exclusive contracts earlier this year, so talent affected by it include Michael Elgin, The Briscoes, reDRagon, Adam Cole, Jay Lethal and potentially others.
As of this writing it is unknown whether or not talent will be pulled from Pro Wrestling Guerilla, however, PWG's next event, titled 'Black Cole Sun' is named after ROH talent Adam Cole, so it doesn't appear that they're affected by it yet.
