WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was announced on Wednesday as one of the broadcast announcers for Global Force Wrestling's presentation of the NJPW's Tokyo Dome show which will take place on 4th January, 2015.
The deal was that voice overs Ross did for PPV highlight packages would only be released if he signed with the promotion for the show, which he has done so verbally but not contractually as of this writing. Both he and GFW founder Jeff Jarrett felt confident enough to make the public announcement on Wednesday. In fact, Ross and Jarrett reportedly made verbal contact for the first time in fifteen years in the last few days.
In terms of J.R's role, he will be both broadcasting the show from ringside and also helping promote the event. It's not the first time he has announced for a Tokyo Dome show, having done so already in 1991 and 1992.
The aim right now is for GFW to present regular PPVs from Japan with the hope Ross would be the lead announcer for the U.S. market.
There is currently no word on who will be J.R's announcing partner, TNA's Mike Tenay is strongly rumored with his contract expiring in one week but if TNA sign a new television deal he may very well stay with them.
