WWE.com has just posted an article highlighting an addition to tonight's WWE Smackdown airing. The voice of NXT and Main Event, Tom Phillips, has been promoted to join Michael Cole and JBL on the Smackdown announce team from next week.
Phillips who debuted in September 2012 in WWE as a NXT announcer, has reached a break out point in his career to which we could be seeing the next great play by play announcer. Michael Cole was the first to congratulate Phillips when interviewed on WWE.com about the break.
"Tom works hard, he’s got a great work ethic, he’s dedicated to the product and to the business, and he’s doing really well. He’s really earned this opportunity.”
The roles of the announcers have also been established with Michael Cole and JBL described as the "analysts" of Smackdown whilst Phillips will hold a "host" role providing play by play and keeping the show on track which was described by Cole as "his show".
