WNS Columnist Predictions: Round 4 Summerslam 2014

WWE’s SummerSlam is less than 24 hours away, so the writers at WNS have gathered to put our predictions together, so you know what you can expect from the minds of Wrestling News Source.

First of all, here is current leaguetable. 1pt for a correct prediction
To make this as fair as possible to the newcomers, we have added a "Correctness" column. It takes your Correct Predictions and divides your Predictions Made. Is this wasn't the case, the new members of WNS Columns would be at a major disadvantage!

*******************************************
AJ Lee (10) vs. Paige (3) for the Divas Championship
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: AJ Lee
Aj Lee will come out on top. There needs to be a successful title defense rather than these quick swaps whenever one returns or debuts. Could be a good one.

Garvin: Paige
I’m really interested in this feud. It’s actually my current favorite feud because we’re finally getting to see that vicious side of Paige and I like it. It’s also the first time that AJ has been taken down and “bullied” in this type of manner. I want to see this rivalry continue and keep getting better and a win by Paige would secure that potential.

John Huxall: AJ Lee
Frenemies go head-to-head but I don't feel it's Paige's time just yet, a good way to keep the feud alive and Paige may well pull out some classic heel tactics here but I think AJ will conquer again, proving why she deserves the belt a while longer.

Andrew Fletcher: AJ Lee
I don't necessarily see the purpose behind Paige regaining the Divas Championship so soon after losing it. It makes more sense to have AJ retain the title, especially after losing this past week on RAW. The feud may continue, but on this occasion, I see AJ picking up the win.

Tyler Trill: AJ Lee
I can't pick! Seriously, a huge fan of both of these two. An AJ victory followed by Paige attacking her will increase heat on Paige, as well as keep the feud going into Night of Champions.

Vicky Earls: AJ Lee *retains by DQ*
DQ Finish

Jay Hankin: Paige

Stephen Wilds: AJ Lee
I would LOVE to see Paige win, as she has been greatly entertaining, but I think AJ will hold the belt a bit longer.

JPS: AJ Lee
AJ Lee. This one will be most memorable for the CM Punk chants more than anything.

Kevin Pantoja: AJ Lee
I've enjoyed this feud a lot more since Paige officially turned heel and beat down on AJ. They've been riveting and Paige is shining in this role. That being said, I don't see AJ dropping the belt

Richard Hughes: AJ Lee
As much as I want Paige to win it for England, its not the time. AJ Lee wins this battle, and the two will go head to head at Night Of Champions, perhaps in a multi-person match.

Vinny Fucci: Paige
The Divas title can be a game of hot potato until the feud comes to an end. Paige will regain and we will continue with this until Night of Champions.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): AJ Lee
Can’t see it going back and forth. Its AJ’s for now.

Majority Decision: AJ Lee retains, but most think thats this feud will continue to NoC

*******************************************
Chris Jericho (0) vs. Bray Wyatt (13)

*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Bray Wyatt
Jericho's win at the last ppv was more of an indication that Bray gets his big win, considering the last big ppv he was featured on was Mania with Cena (WHICH YOU CAN GET FOR ONLY 9.99)

Garvin: Bray Wyatt
With Bray losing last month’s fight, it only seems logical that he’d pick up a win here. It also would give Jericho a story to return to when/if he comes back, assuming the rumors are true and he’s gone after this PPV. Regardless, should be a good, fun match.

John Huxall: Bray Wyatt
Another stellar match on the way on Sunday, Jericho is up 1-0 at the moment and the Eater Of Worlds will have his family by his side and definitely make it 1-1. Y2J came back at Battleground to show he is the Best In The World (at what he does) and now it's time to pass the torch and to Follow The Buzzards.

Andrew Fletcher: Bray Wyatt
Wyatt has only won 1 out of his last 4 PPV outings. With Jericho winning at Battleground, it sets up the return win for Wyatt at SummerSlam. If WWE wants to restrict Wyatt from losing all of his momentum, he needs to win this match. Jericho is only scheduled to be in the company until September due to his upcoming tour with Fozzy, so a Y2J win doesn't make a lot of sense. Wyatt to win this one.

Tyler Trill:  Bray Wyatt
The legend puts the up and coming talent over at the second biggest event of the year. Hoping this match flows better than their bout at Battleground.

Vicky Earls: Bray Wyatt

Jay Hankin: Bray Wyatt

Stephen Wilds: Bray Wyatt
It is Bray’s time. Follow the buzzards.

John Paul Sutherland: Bray Wyatt
Please let sense prevail and give the win to Wyatt. I love Jericho as much as the next guy. He has felt a little stale upon his last couple of returns to the ring. His matches have been solid, if a bit unspectacular by his standards and he has nothing to gain from this series. Surely he'll put Wyatt over here. If not, Bray might need to hit the panic button. Wyatt to win.

Kevin Pantoja: Bray Wyatt
After losing at Battleground, this is a no brainer. Bray Wyatt has to win.

Richard Hughes: Bray Wyatt
He needs his win back, and he’ll get it. Rubber match at NOC before Jericho Leaves.

Vinny Fucci: Bray Wyatt
Bray is in line for this match. He needs to win it. The Eater of Worlds has seemingly lost some momentum after Mania. Ridding of Y2J these days is more of a compliment but it’s a start.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Wyatt
Wyatt will get his win back

Majority Decision: Unanimous Decision. Bray must win and get his win back.

*******************************************
Ambrose (4) vs. Rollins (8) (1 for DQ) in a Lumberjack Match
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Seth Rollins
This stipulation seemed off. I was expecting a cage match between the two but this will work I suppose. I feel as if Rollins takes this and Ambrose wins the next bout on a lower-level ppv.

Garvin: Seth Rollins
Much like last PPV, I foresee Rollins getting one over on Ambrose via shenanigans. Maybe Kane or some other heels looking to get in with the Authority cause a distraction, or something. Either way, Rollins will escape with the briefcase and the win, and we’ll continue to get Ambrose chasing after Rollins for another month. Which is a good thing.

John Huxall: Dean Ambrose
For the second biggest match on the card, I had a bit of stick for not including this in my "Summerslam Wishlist" column recently so here are my thoughts. I'd of preferred Ambrose to have chosen a match more suited to himself - LA Street Fight, Cage Match, No DQ or even Hell In A Cell (why not, right?). The fact he has chosen the Lumberjack means one thing - at every opportunity he will be throwing Seth to the outside and staying in the ring as much as he can. Keep your eye out for new NXT signing's trying to make a name for themselves on the outside, and maybe some WWE Alumni on the comeback too. But the ending is going to be simple - The Unstable One will prove that it's his time to be Mr MITB, by beating the current one.

Andrew Fusion: Dean Ambrose
Along with Steph/Brie, this was probably the hardest match to predict for me. Both are looking extremely strong heading into the PPV, but on this occasion, Ambrose needs the win more than Rollins does. The latter remains as one of the company's biggest heels as long as he remains as the MITB Briefcase holder. I have no doubt this feud is bound to continue, so with that in mind, Ambrose needs to seek revenge and get the win.

Richard Hughes: Dean Ambrose
I think its time for Dean to win. I said this last month, but we never got the match officially. Dean wins but Rollins will escape after the match.

Tyler Trill: Dean Ambrose
I mean I get the stipulation, but I don't get the stipulation. The briefcase should be on the line! Anyways, Ambrose is far too hot right now, and they've built up The Lunatic Fringe getting his hands on Rollins enough. It is time. This is going to to be great.

Vicky Earls: Seth Rollins

Jay Hankin: No Contest

Stephen Wilds: Seth Rollins
I can think of several ways to make this an awesome match and raise the stakes as well as entertain the crowd. The lumberjack thing seems to be a way to get more stars out there and to have legal interference, which I think will lead to Rollins stealing one more from Ambrose.

John Paul Sutherland: Seth Rollins
Rollins goes over here for me. He's been booked as a bit of a cowardly heel and I think he'll sneak his way past Ambrose here somehow. Some surprise interference from someone, I don't know. But seeing as he's The Authority's golden boy I think it makes sense to give him the victory. Rollins it is!

Kevin Pantoja: Seth Rollins
The toughest one to choose. The Lumberjack stipulation is absurdly stupid but the match should still be good. I sense Rollins winning but the feud continuning into bigger stipulation matches

Vinny Fucci: Seth Rollins
A lumberjack match? I hope something good is planned for this because while I get the concept of it, I never liked them. This match would’ve been better in a cage or a ladder for the MITB. Rollins needs a solid win also because beating RVD on every Raw since turning heel has proved nothing yet.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Rollins

Majority Decision: Rollins edges this one, however it might not be as cleancut as you’d expect. Shenanigans might be coming.

*******************************************
Jack Swagger (11) vs. Rusev (2) in a Flag Match
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Jack Swagger
Since this isn't a regular match, Rusev "loses" his first match and allows Swagger to look huge. I'd love to see a gutwrench powerbomb to a 300 pounder.

Garvin: Rusev
Hey, this is a match that seems to be perfect for Swagger to win. It would also be an acceptable loss for Rusev, because it wouldn’t be by pinfall or submission. But, once again, I see Rusev and Lana getting the win and continuing to get heat from the crowd by stealing a win.

John Huxall: Jack Swagger
It is time for Rusev to be crushed. No more Putin, no more Cobra Clutches, a bit more Lana maybe but it's time for America to stand up and fight! My main reason for Swagger to win here is that he doesn't have to actually pin Rusev, that being the main problem thus far. I'll be standing proud come the end of the match, with my hand over my heart - and be saying in a loud clear voice (and join in with me if you can..) - WE THE PEOPLE.

Andrew Fletcher: Swagger
With SummerSlam being the second biggest PPV of the year, WWE have done a good job to protect both athletes in this one. Swagger can afford to win, thus providing the crowd with a nice patriotic moment while Rusev remains strong considering he isn't being pinned or made to submit. Swagger wins this one.

Richard Hughes: Swagger
Since its CTF style, Jack can win without pinning/submitting Rusev. Makes sense.

Tyler Trill: Swagger
WE THE PEOPLE! *U-S-A chant begins*

Vicky Earls: Swagger

Jay Hankin: Rusev

Stephen Wilds: Swagger
This will be an easy victory for Swagger to look good and not make Rusev look too bad. This one will be all hype; this one will be for America.

John Paul Sutherland: Jack Swagger
I had a quick look through the WWE archives for Flag Matches, and nearly every video's thumbnail was one of the Stars and Stripes being held aloft. This leads me to think Swagger will tie the series 1-1. I don't think it'll be particularly clean, in order to keep Rusev strong, but the US flag will be flying at the end no matter what the result of the match. Swagger to win hopefully.

Kevin Pantoja: Jack Swagger
I pick Jack Swagger because it's a match that Rusev can lose and not get pinned to keep himself strong. Jack Swagger could use the win to really solidify his face turn

Vinny Fucci: Jack Swagger
I always thought Swagger could be more effective as a face and so far, so good. The barbs between Zeb and Lana have been fun and now it’s time to put up or shut up. Rusev can lose here without having being pinned or submitted yet to keep his reign of terror on the up and up.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Swagger

Majority Decision: Jack Swagger wins, because it isn’t a straight pinfall/submission match. Feud continues.

*******************************************
Miz (10) vs. Dolph Ziggler (3) for the Intercontinental Championship

*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Dolph Ziggler
I want to see a superkick into the moneymaker. Ziggler has momentum as he's picked up wins over Miz. Miz has looked good through this feud also.

Garvin: The Miz
Ziggler is in my top 5 guys still. And I want to see him holding a title and getting the spotlight. But, it’s not time yet. We need to see Miz avoid the loss and get even more on the crowd’s nerves. Ziggler is good in the chase right now and I could see this match easily repeated at Night of Champions.

John Huxall: The Miz
This is a feud I'm looking forward to, starting here with Miz retaining. The A list celebrity is far too hot at the moment, creating a huge amount of heat with his MoneyMaker gimmick. I can see Ziggler eventually taking the belt down the line but the chase is always better than the catch.
This is also a match I feel has brought back a bit of meaning to the title belt.

Andrew Fletcher: The Miz
I see these two competing over the IC Title for the next month or two, so with that in mind, The Miz retains here. After only winning the belt at Battleground, he needs a solid title defence against somebody like Ziggler to keep the momentum rolling. Do I see Ziggler eventually getting the better of The Miz? Sure, but not at SummerSlam.

Richard Hughes: The Miz AKA Johnny Cage
The Miz has some good heat right now, and he’ll have a great showing with Dolph. Miz wins via cheeky rollup/tight pulling/etc

Tyler Trill: The Miz
For the sake of improving my record, I'm going with The Miz. I hoping this is the beginning of a feud, that involves Ziggler chasing the title, not him jobbing out to The Miz eac PPV. The Miz picks up a victory, in a sheepish manner.

Vicky Earls: The Miz

Jay Hankin: Dolf Ziggler

Stephen Wilds: The Miz
I want to see Ziggler win more than anything, but I just do not see it happen. The WWE seems to be behind Miz and it will probably stay that way for a while.

John Paul Sutherland: The Miz
Tough one this. Would love to see Ziggler win, but I just don't think the WWE will switch the IC strap so soon after Miz's victory at July's Battleground. It'll be a solid effort from both, I imagine. The PPV crowd will root for Dolph as they always do. However hard he bumps around the ring though, I think this one has 'As you were' written all over it. The Miz to win in about 18 minutes.

Kevin Pantoja: The Miz
I'm pulling for Dolph Ziggler personally, but Miz just won the belt. I doubt they'll switch it here. If they continue the feud then Miz should get the first win at least.

Vinny Fucci: The Miz
Man, if only this match had the HBK/Martel stipulation from SummerSlam 92 where either guy can’t strike the other in the face. Dolph is going to once again get burned here but I think he’ll eventually dethrone the Miz at a later date.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Dolph Ziggler

Majority Decision: People like The Miz?! Say it ain’t so. Feud continues.

*******************************************
Stephanie McMahon (9) vs. Brie Bella (3) (1 DQ)
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Brie Bella
This is reminding me of the Lesnar/Taker feud; totally one sided power until the ppv where the other will win. Taker looked stronger than Lesnar for 3/4 of the Raw's before Mania and Brock ended the streak. Steph has looked much stronger these last couple of weeks so she will put Brie over.

Garvin: Stephanie McMahon
You honestly think that Stephanie would get involved in her first match in what, a decade? And not have something up her sleeve? This will be the turn of Nikki Bella as we continue forward with Nikki vs. Brie. Or who knows, maybe that trainer will take the spot and be pushed in the feud as we head towards NOC. Either way, Stephanie wins.

John Huxall: Brie Bella
Really don't know what to expect from this bout - Will we see a returning Daniel Bryan to help his wife? Will we see a returning McMahon to help his sis? Might we see *Lawler voice* "Puppies!?" Whatever happens I'm fairly sure Brie will get her job back with some help from either Nikki/Daniel.

Andrew Fusion: Stephanie McMahon
I'm going to predict against the obvious choice and go with Steph to pick up the win. She's easily one of the best heels in the company at the moment (in my opinion), and an Authority win is necessary I think. I just have a feeling that Nikki may cost her sister the match.

Richard Hughes: Stephanie McMahon
The hardest choice of the whole card. Brie could win, and finish the feud but then she’ll have nothing to do. Stephanie wins with Nikkis help, and then we have Bella Vs. Bella. Makes much more sense, with Total Divas S3 coming up. Steph wins.

Tyler Trill: Stephanie McMahon
I don't know where this one is going. I think Steph's in ring return results in victory, after Nikki Bella turns on her sister. #Twinning

Vicky Earls: DQ Finish

Jay Hankin: Stephanie McMahon

Stephen Wilds: Stephanie McMahon
I feel like Brie is looking too good, getting her ass beat and arrested, but I really think Steph and the authority have some serious tricks and interference up their sleeves, but I have to say, out of the entire card, this match outcome puzzles me the most.

John Paul Sutherland: Brie Bella
This one will be quick, scrappy but will be a perfect opportunity to check your Twitter feed.
Sorry.
Okay, I'll start again. Brie Bella's road to redemption takes its final turn at The Staples Centre, downtown Los Angeles. A chance to finally exorcise the demons of her unfair dismissal, and gain a modicum of vengeance for her and Daniel Bryan's treatment at the hands of The Authority. I expect this one to run 45 minutes and be a textbook scientific encounter between two mat specialists. (Ahh I did it again. Sorry) Brie to go over, Steph to sell magnificently. Just like her old man. Brie wins!

Kevin Pantoja: Stephanie McMahon
Normally one would say that Brie wins here to finally get one over on Stephanie, but the Nikki Bella heel turn makes way too much sense right now. Brie quit on her, so Nikki should turn heel.

Vinny Fucci: Stephanie McMahon
With Bryan out longer than hoped, this gave Brie something to do in the meantime. Maybe a Nikki turn is coming along with this and then Steph can continue her string of entertaining jabs the following night on Raw.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Stephanie McMahon
Wins with Nikki Bellas help. Its not the end.

Majority Decision: WNS likes Stephanie in this one, a lot thinking about the Heel turn of Nikki Bella being involved.

*******************************************
Roman Reigns (11) vs. Randy Orton (2)
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Roman Reigns
Boring feud that has little to no meaning to anything really. It's a put-over match and what better way for Randy to look good than to put Reigns over and have him begin his real WWE push.

Garvin: Roman Reigns
Decent feud, which is giving us back the ruthless agression style Randy Orton. He’s not quite there, but shades of it, which is a very good sign. Overall, though, Roman Reigns needs to get a win over a big name and Randy Orton is the guy to do it.

John Huxall:  Randy Orton
Superman Punch versus RKO. Personally, not a match I'm too bothered about but Orton does occasionally step up at a PPV, and given it's the second biggest one of the WWE calendar I think he will come out on top (possibly with a little help from The Authority).

Andrew Fusion: Roman Reigns
Orton has been on a PPV losing streak recently, but quite frankly, I don't see it ending at SummerSlam. Reigns is being built up as the 'next big guy' and a solid win over somebody like Orton at the second biggest PPV of the year will help to cement that spot. Also, if Reigns is to one day compete against HHH, he needs to win this contest.

Richard Hughes: Roman Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
.
This feud has done nothing for me, except when Orton RKO’d him. I hoped that Reigns got hurt actually
Nothing match, Reigns isn’t ready for the big time, but they’re putting the rocket on him. Lame. Reignzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wins.

Tyler Trill: Roman Reigns
Reigns and his two moves of doom will defeat The Viper. I'm sure The Authority will get involved to some degree, but Reigns will overcome the odds, and Superman Punch every person involved.

Vicky Earls: Randy Orton

Jay Hankin: Roman Reigns

Stephen Wilds: Roman Reigns
Randy came off too strong, so I believe this one will go to Reigns, but I hope this feud goes one more month, because I think there is something to get out of it.

John Paul Sutherland: Roman Reigns
Easiest prediction for me. Surely they will not undo months of slowly building Reigns by having him stare at the lights for Orton. RKO will put anyone over who the office deem fit, and put over Reigns he will. Think this one could run 15-20 mins. Expect a run in from Kane and an against the odds victory performance from Reigns. Orton will make him look like dynamite though. Roman Reigns to win.

Kevin Pantoja: Roman Reigns
I honestly would like to see Orton win because Reigns isn't doing much for me since the Shield split, but he's their guy and he needs a big singles match win on Pay-Per-View, which he's yet to have.

Vinny Fucci: Roman Reigns
Much is left to desire about Roman Reigns. He’s clearly in line for a monumental push but can barely stay in the ring for no more than 10 minutes otherwise he is exposed. Randy is a good veteran to maybe get him over the hump and pull out a decent match. Reigns needs a big singles win and what no better way to get it than at SummerSlam.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Roman Reigns
With some Shenanigans

Majority Decision: Roman Wins, but people doubt Romans ability going forward.

*******************************************
John Cena (1) vs. Brock Lesnar (12) for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
*******************************************

Quinn Smith: Brock Lesnar
Cena's time is up. It's Brock's turn to put someone else over after this win and start the new faces of the WWE (Most likely Reigns first up, but i'd hope Cesaro would be first up).

Garvin: Brock Lesnar
I’ve wanted this since Heyman and Lesnar put their name in the hat before WrestleMania 30. The guy is a beast. He’s unstoppable. And overall, Lesnar looks and works like a legit Champion. I want this so bad, even if it does take the title off of weekly TV. What could possibly be wrong with that, especially if they use that time to build up his challengers? #LesnarWinsLOL

John Huxall: Brock Lesnar
"You're time is up, my time is now" is what Brock Lesnar is going to saying to John Cena some Sunday night. This is going to be one hell of a match. Paul Heyman at ringside screaming the orders, and of course letting everyone know that his client BROOOCKK LESSSSSNARRR conquered The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania. I fully expect Cena to go all out with the gold on the line but the 1,2,3 will be in Lesnar's favour as he debuts the new belts.

Andrew Fletcher: Brock Lesnar
Lesnar is a monster heel. Not just physically but also theoretically. He's easily the biggest that the company has had in many years, if not all-time. If he loses to Cena, the win at 'Mania against 'Taker means absolutely nothing whatsoever. If Cena wins, we're back to square one. I'm going with a Lesnar win.

Richard Hughes: Brock Lesnar
It will be the worse booking decision, since The Invasion angle in 2001 if Brock Lesnar loses this match after beating the Undertaker. John Cena puts up a hell of a fight, but Brock kills him and send John packing to finish off his pretty little movie. Lesnar wins,  and frankly who cares about the ‘Part timer’ stuff. Brock can work the PPV & Go Home Raw, and we get more Paul Heyman. Everyone Wins Except the Cenation. Because Lesnar is winning. End of story.

Tyler Trill: Brock Lesnar
"So here's some free advice, with SummerSlam drawing near: Get it out your damn system when you say, "The Champ is here!" Because we're six days away from the West Coast's biggest arena, where my client Brock Lesnar will conquer John Cena"

Vicky Earls: Brock Lesnar
Overall thoughts so far; I think some of the feuds are good, some are so so. WWE the last year has been more mediocre than anything. I can see so far there's no tag match unless I missed something from Main Event which I have not yet checked.)

Jay Hankin: John Cena
By DQ...Or the match gets thrown out...something along those lines. Rollins cashes in on broken Cena.

Stephen Wilds: Brock Lesnar
This just feels like a given, feels like what the company wants, and with them re-showing the 2012 Extreme Rules match, I have to give it with Lesnar. I just hope they handle his title reign well.

John Paul Sutherland: Brock Lesnar
I can't see Cena taking this one as he already has that victory over Lesnar at Extreme Rules 2012, and it's time to repay the favour. I also can't see why Lesnar has been parachuted into the no.1 contender slot for his second fight of the year without intending to put the belt on him for a couple of months. The only thing I'm battling with is whether the WWE believe Cena hasn't had the belt long enough yet. Hmm. Still going with The Beast. Lesnar goes over. Hopefully clean.

Kevin Pantoja: Brock Lesnar
I mean, he has to win after beating the Streak...right?

Vinny Fucci: Brock Lesnar
After breaking the Undertaker’s undefeated streak, the 1 in 21-1 wins after conquering John Cena and setting a storm of outrage across the WWE Universe.

Dean Puckering (TheWrestlingMania & TWMShow): Brock Lesnar
Paul Heyman holding the WWE Title over his head will be great.

Majority Decision: Only the Welshman thinks Cena wins, but only because Rollins for the cashin
Doesn’t look good for ol’ John boy and his pretty new belt. WNS says Brock Wins.
