WNS Column: No WWE, not Kane!

WNS Column: No WWE, not Kane!

After watching Raw on Monday night I was feeling good about the Money in the Bank pay-per-view this Sunday. A solid cast of seven were competing for the Money in the Bank contract match, there was going to a new champion crowned, and I am going to get to watch Paige. More on her later though. But the last two minutes of the show left an unsettling feeling in my stomach. It was a solid four against three tag team main event, in which Sheamus (aka Lameus) Brogue Kicked Cesaro for the victory. Then the stupid explosives had to sound, the dreadful organ played and the big lunk in a gimp mask, Kane, had to be included in Sunday's main event.

For the last 17 years Kane has been wrestling in the WWE. We've seen two sleeve Kane, one sleeve Kane, sleeveless Kane, Kane's mask covering his mouth, Kane mask not covering his mouth, Kane without a mask, face Kane, heel Kane, comedy Kane, serious Kane, corporate Kane and the demon Kane--hope I didn't miss any. And throughout all these changes, I've essentially seen the same character. Don't get me wrong, when HHH unmasked Kane, I was genuinely scared. I was also 11 at the time and thought wrestling was unscripted. But now as a sophisticated, mature wrestling fan, who pouts everytime Dolph Ziggler loses, I can no longer stand seeing the rip-off horror movie character on my television screen.

Kane is 47 years old. I'm assuming he is nearing retirement from the ring, and let's be honest, he's not going to win this match. He's not even going to benefit from this match. He seems to be included for the sake of the storyline. Kane is Triple H's henchman. He is the man that has to make sure Roman Reigns does not win the title. But I see him as a wasted spot for a few superstars I much rather have in this match.

First off, Cody Rhodes. Did WWE forget how brilliant he was in last year's World Heavyweight contract match? Honestly, I think he had the best performance of any superstar in the 2013 version of Money in the Bank. This Stardust gig is dragging out his partnership with Goldust, which should have ended in March. Rhodes deserves an extended singles face run, and he deserves it now.

Speaking of last year's World Heavyweight contract match, who won that match? Oh yeah, Damien Sandow. Imagine Sandow coming out of as Paul Revere on Sunday. I would go crazy, and I guarantee Boston would too. At this point, Paul Revere has the same chance as Kane to win the titles.

If WWE was going for a big bodied, intimidating opponent, then they should have went with the Big Show over Kane...just kidding. I'm talking about Rusev. I know Rusev is amidst his racist reign of terror across the WWE, but let's get him in a prominent match. He's very mobile and agile for his size and he needs to be given more time in matches to showcase this. I'd like to see him thrown in with seven of the top stars in the company to see how he interacts. RUSEV UDREA! RUSEV MACHKA!

This is a biased choice, especially based on past columns I've written, but Heath Slater deserves to be in this match! Just like Kane and Paul Revere, Slater has no chance in winning, but I promise he would deliver a better performance than Kane. This could become something special for Slater, who could be catapulted from best jobber in the world to United States Champion contender. Slater almost grabbing the titles would be the visual of 2014. Give him a chance! One man band, baby! Plus, can Kane do this? I don't think so.

Lastly, my wildcard choice, Paige. Maybe it's her scream before entering the ring, or her pale skin, or the way she holds up her title with the devilish smirk after exiting the curtain, but for some reason I am absolutely captivated by Paige. And with the both of us being 21, I'm not counting out the chance that her and I are getting married.

All joking aside, WWE probably shouldn't have even added an eight man, or seventh man as a matter of fact. Last year's six-man main event was perfectly spaced, and there was never too much congestion. Too many guys in a match typically leads to a lot of lame clubbing to an opponent's back in the corner, and people taking naps outside the ring as two or three men go at it for the camera.

What do you guys think? Should Kane have been added to the match, or would you have rather seen someone else? Let me know in the comments below. Also, don't forget to follow me on the Twittersphere (@ttrill_).
