WNS Column: Whats Sells A Tag Team?

I have been a wrestling fan for a really long time! I've been through the ups & the downs,the good gimmicks,the bad gimmicks,the really good tag team ideas & the really bad tag team ideas! So! I have decided to list a few things that,to me,really sells a tag team.  

 

1. Keeping the numbers down! 

 

To me,a tag team with four or more members are just meh! A standard faction is to consist of three members! Two male Superstars and a Diva/Knockout! To have three  Superstars in a faction is just overkill!

 

The Shield do it really well now that they're NOT holding the Tag Titles or any title at all for that matter but that is another story for another time.The Diva/Knockout is basically a piece of eye candy nowadays but I personally her to be a fighter similar to older factions like Team X-Treme with Lita,M-N-M with Melina,and even Primo and Epico with Rosa Mendes!  

 

2. Giving them their very own theme! 

 

I hate it when you have epic tag team and they do not have their own theme! Take Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne! I loved Air-Boom! They were a really good tag team,had the titles for a little while and had decent rivalry with Primo and Epico but they never got their own theme! Kofi and R-Truth! When they were Booming Truth,again,a fantastic tag but the only thing shared(Besides the titles)was their video which only consisted of bits and pieces of their personal videos chopped up and thrown together instead of in-ring action like most tag teams! I really like when they morph two Superstars themes together! Take Rybaxel or The Brotherhood! They perfectly combined the two guys theme and they sound amazing!   

 

3. Have a Tag Team Finisher! 

 

If nothing else,if none of my other points are used,I want to see a Tag Team Finisher or a combo finisher of some kind! Take my all-time favorite Tag Team Team X-Treme! Matt would hit the Twist of Fate then Jeff would follow up with a Swanton Bomb then Matt pin! In Air-Boom:Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise followed up by Air Bourne! Amazing stuff! If you're going to go out to make a statement as a tag team,come out and use a team finisher! It really makes watching the team interesting whether you are Face or Heel! M-N-M had SnapShot,The Shield uses the Triple Powerbomb,Bubba Ray & Devon had 3-D! They're terrfic ways of ending a match and they really add character to the team!

 

So as I look at the current tag teams and the tag teams to come,comparing them with my list in mind,with the numbers,the themes and Finishers,I wonder if there will ever be a team that will live up to my "perfect" standards.
