Steve Ketcher, who competed during the mid-1980's in WWE and the AWA as "Steve Gatorwolf," was arrested today in Colorado after turning himself in to authorities. PWInsider.com reports that Ketcher was arrested on seven counts of sexual assault and seven counts of sexual assault on a child. The victim is said to be the daughter of a woman that Ketcher knew and that the alleged abuse is suspected to have taken place over several months.
Charges against Ketcher were filed back in March with him going on the run as a result. Authorities had been searching for Ketcher in the Jacksonville, Florida area due to him having connections there. A media campaign was launched earlier today notifying residents that Ketcher may, in fact, be in the area. However, Colorado's KOVK 104.5 radio station reported that Ketcher later turned himself in and surrendered in Green Cove Springs, Florida at the Clay County Sheriff's Office a few hours after the media campaign was launched.
Ketcher is expected to be arraigned in court Thursday morning.
Ketcher's WWE and AWA career often saw him losing preliminary matches on television and at various live events. His most notable career highlight involved him teaming with Chief Jay Strongbow in a Tag Team Battle Royal in 1986 at an event that headlined Madison Square Garden. Ketcher later went on to make sporadic appearances for both companies through early 1990 before transitioning to becoming an independent promoter in the Southwest. About a decade ago, Ketcher also promoted mixed martial arts events in the same area.
