The Tennessee Senate and House have passed "Amelia's Law," a law that was proposed in memory of 16-year-old Amelia Keown, the granddaughter of WWE's Zeb Colter (real name Wayne Keown). Amelia was tragically killed in a head-on car crash on Highway 411 near Maryville, Tennessee in 2012 after being hit by a driver, named as 45-year-old John Perkins, who was high on drugs and driving over 70 miles per hour on the highway. Amelia was on her way home to pick up pom-poms for dance practice when the tragic accident occurred.
The law, according to various Tennessee news outlets, "lets judges place trans-dermal monitoring devices on persons on probation or parole who have a history with drug or alcohol abuse." These devices would detect any alcohol or drugs in a person's body.
The man who killed Amelia, who was also killed in the accident himself, had a criminal history in Tennessee of numerous felonies that filled a total of nine pages.
Colter posted the following message on his official Twitter page recently thanking fans for their support of the bill:
"I want to thank #WeThePeople for their support of #AmeliasLaw that passed unanimously in the TN. House/Senate and will become law June 1."
Colter also stated with Tennessee's News Channel 5 that "had this law been in effect in August 2012 or even before that Amelia would still be with us."
The law is now heading to the desk of Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam's desk for his signature.
