Tony Chimel came out to introduce WWE Live and the show began
Prime Time Players def. Hunico and Kamacho
Good tag team match with plenty of pops for PTP. Lots of cheers and “millions of dollars” chants.
Titus with the sit out spinebuster for the win.
Ryback def. Justin Gabriel
Plenty of cheers for Gabriel and boos for Ryback – I imagined Gabriel to be squashed in a minute (like most did I think) but they put on a pretty decent match. Plenty of “Goldberg….. Goldberg” chants. Good springboard moonsault by Gabriel but Ryback picked up the win with his ShellShock.
The Bella Twins def. AJ Lee and Tamina Snuka
Lots of cheers for The Bella’s and noticed a few signs also “I’m Here To See The Bella Twins!” and alike.
Chants included “We want tables!” and “Lets Go AJ!” to which she played up to then when she got tagged in she came straight back out (to boos). The match was surprisingly good and ended with Brie hitting the X Factor on AJ.
Great Khali def. Jinder Mahal
Few boos for Jinder and a massive pop for Khali when he came out. Nothing spectacular in this match just a normal match with the Punjabi Playboy hitting the Chop for the win.
Paul Heyman came out with Ryback and Curtis Axel and on the mic addressed everyone as “Ladies and Gentlemen….” which was received with huge boos to which Heyman said “You’re booing me for calling you ladies and gentlemen? Ok ‘the things that live in Leeds……?” which got even bigger boos (Heyman was in a neck brace, leg brace, back brace and had a crutch which made this all the more comical!). He cut a promo about facing CM Punk just as his music hit, to huge cheers.
Punk then went and got himself a Kendo Stick and a microphone and told Ryback that Heyman didn’t even like him. After a few words Ryback soon left the ring and headed back. Then he strolled toward the ring telling Curtis Axel he has 10 seconds to get out of their before he came in and kicked their asses!! The crowd counted down from 10 and as Punk jumped in on 1 the crowd cheered as Axel retreated backstage leaving Heyman all alone! Punk on the mic asking if we wanted to see him beat up Heyman to very big cheers, stating he would leave him alone if Heyman said “I Love Leeds”. Heyman then said that he would and pointed at Punk and said “You Love Leeds.” Punk proceeded to smash the Kendo Stick over Heymans back brace and legs to huge pops and “YES!” chants as the lights went out and the Wyatt Family’s music played as they came out and stacked Punk in the ring. Shortly after, Daniel Bryan’s music hit and the crowd went insane with cheers and more “YES!” chants as Bryan came to the rescue with a beatdown on the Wyatt Family.
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan def. The Wyatt Family
Good match from both teams as Bray sat ringside in his rocking chair. Huge cheers for tags from Punk/Bryan including a “Daniel Bryan / CM PUNK!” chant as well as “Yes!” chants. Bryan looked like a madman after a hot tag attacking Erik Rowan at each turnbuckle throwing himself into him and almost over the ropes! Interference from Bray was soon stopped as Punk lifted him up for the GTS. Luke Harper came to the rescue only to be hit by a huge knee to the face from Bryan as Punk lifted Erik Rowan onto his shoulders and hit the GTS for the 3 count.
--15 minute Intermission—
(Tony Chimel made reference to the VIP’s sat ringside and hyped up the upcoming Survivor Series PPV)
The Usos def. 3MB (Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre)
Good match again from both sides – The Uso’s came out to a huge pop and plenty of “U…SO!” chants back and forth with the crowd. 3MB had boos for their taunts and Heath Slater was on the mat imitating his guitar playing to shouts from the ringside. Jimmy and Jey did very well to pick up the win from a samoan drop/superkick combo.
Intercontinental Match – Curtis Axel (c) def. R-Truth
Huge cheers for R-Truth and loud “WHAT’S UP!” chants back and forth. Curtis Axel played the heel as he put Truth on the mat and tried to do a body pop/breakdance R-Truth style to laughs from the crowd. Good momentum but Axel picked up the win by ripping off the turnbuckle and beating Truth into it then hitting his finisher.
World Heavyweight Championship Title Match
John Cena (c) def. Alberto Del Rio
Mixture of cheers and boos for Del Rio out first as he threw his black scarf into the crowd followed by taunting his t-shirt to some kids ringside then offering it to someone in the lower tier but eventually tossing it to a security working ringside. Cena came out to mostly cheers from the kids and boos from the marks. “Lets Go Cena/Cena Sucks” chants very loud before the match got underway. Not long into the match a group of my friends (who were al in fancy dress as The Wyatt Family) started heckling Cena and shouting “CENA KILLED WRESTLING” so Cena jumped out of the ring and went towards them to ask what moves they wanted to see as they replied “ANYTHING BUT YOUR SHOULDER TACKLE!!!!!”
The match progressed with back and forth from both guys, but Cena did seem to injure himself legitimately after Del Rio put him down to the mat and carried on attacking his leg. We did see the ref signal the “X” as Del Rio backed off and someone in a tracksuit dived in the ring to check on Cena. We were still unsure as to whether he was really injured or just selling well. (In the meantime Del Rio was taunting the crowd and got out of the ring and got hold of the Title Belt – he got back in the ring and went for Cena with it and knocked out the Referee!)
The match continued as Cena seemed to be keeping weight off his leg and he even collapsed after a failed AA attempt on Del Rio. Del Rio went for Cena who reversed it into the STF. Del Rio tapped out but the ref was still unconscious! Cena celebrated then noticed that the ref had seen none of it. Still struggling with his ankle he managed a top rope dive onto Del Rio followed by 5 Knuckle Shuffle then hit the AA for the 3 count.
After his celebrations to the crowd one of the Wyatt Family (fancy dress) threw their hat into the crowd. Cena then cut a promo at how passionate people still were and that he has seen everyone in fancy dress. Goldust, Superman, The Wyatt’s, I.R.S and Papa Shango and Stone Cold Steve Austin! Cue lots of “WHAT!?” chants and Cena lpaying up to them “I’ll repeat myself… WHAT….. I said I’ll repeat myself WHAT?” etc
He also mentioned it was the first time WWE had been to Leeds and how they can’t wait to come back again, and announced that May 2014 the WrestleMania Revenge Tour will come back to Leeds Arena! Tickets will go on sale Monday! He then thanked everyone again for coming and wished them a safe journey home as his music hit and he went to high-five the kids at ringside.
