It's been well-documented that Rob Van Dam is expected to take time away from WWE after this Sunday's Battleground pay-per-view. There have been conflicting reports about his contract situation though. Initial reports stated that his contract was good for 90 days of work and then he would take time off, possibly another 90 days, and then return to action for another 90 days. Recent reports have stated that WWE officials want Van Dam to sign a new long-term deal and Van Dam has not done so, hence the reason why he's been booked to lose more on television.
Regarding this Sunday's Battleground pay-per-view, there is talk that Alberto Del Rio will not be leaving the PPV as the World Heavyweight Champion, whether he loses it to Rob Van Dam or Mr. Money In The Bank Damien Sandow. There is also a chance that Van Dam will beat Del Rio and then Sandow will cash it in on Van Dam, but there is also a chance that that won't happen because they just did that with Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam.
It's also being reported that Damien Sandow is set to feud with Alberto Del Rio over the World Heavyweight Championship. No word on who might be the babyface and who will be the heel, or if it will simply be a heel vs. heel feud.
It was also reported earlier that WWE officials were talking about having Ricardo Rodriguez betray Rob Van Dam this Sunday and reunite with Alberto Del Rio.
