WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s impressive start in off-road racing hit its first major setback over the weekend.

After securing category victories in each of his first two races, Austin was unable to complete the Stomping Grounds 300 in Yerington, Nevada, on August 22. The wrestling icon revealed that a mistake on the course brought his race to an early end and left his vehicle with significant damage.

Austin, 61, has thrown himself into off-road racing in recent months through his Broken Skull Racing team. He had enjoyed an excellent beginning to the season, finishing first in the stock-mid category in both of his previous events while placing eighth and 13th overall.

Following Saturday’s incident, Austin shared a photo showing his vehicle on its side and reassured fans that neither he nor his co-driver suffered any injuries.

“Made a mistake on the course and knocked us out of the race on Saturday. Myself and Co-driver @reddogschopshop are both 100%,” Austin wrote. “The car took some pretty good damage and we are working on getting it ready for VC-Tonopah next race.”

Austin Takes Lessons From Racing Setback
Austin had entered the season hoping to complete every race on his schedule, making the Nevada result particularly frustrating. However, the former WWE Champion is already looking ahead and believes the experience will make him a better driver.

“We put the car back together good enough to drive back to main pit on the back roads. This has been a great season of racing and the H2 is a helluva car. We set out to finish every race. And my mistake cost us a finish,” he wrote. “I have learned many things from it that I will take into future races.”

It is not the first time Austin has encountered trouble behind the wheel this season. During his second race in July, he was forced to take evasive action to avoid what he described as a “huge rock.” His vehicle sustained damage on that occasion, although he was still able to reach the finish.

Austin currently competes in events organised by the Valley Off-Road Racing Association, better known as VORRA, in Nevada, where the WWE legend now resides.

While racing has become one of his major passions away from professional wrestling, Austin has continued to make occasional appearances around WWE events.

He was in Las Vegas during WrestleMania week in both 2025 and 2026. Austin appeared on camera at WrestleMania 41 to announce the attendance for the second night of the event, while this year he appeared as a guest at WWE World during WrestleMania 42 weekend.

Austin and the Broken Skull Racing team will now turn their attention toward repairing the damaged vehicle ahead of the upcoming VC-Tonopah race.
