23 Years Ago Today We Saw The Birth Of The NWO

On a humid Sunday night at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, FL, we saw two major events take place. It was a night that would reshape the world of professional wrestling.

The main event of the night was a "Hostile Takeover" match. It was comprised of The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) with a mystery partner, against the team of Randy Savage, Lex Luger, and Sting.  The match started without Nash and Hall's mysterious partner. They claimed he was in the building, but that they could handle it themselves.

The match came to a shocking end when Hulk Hogan made his way to the ring, after a low blow from Nash to Savage. What we thought was going to be a save of Savage, Sting, and Luger by Hogan, quickly turned into the reveal of just who Nash and Hall's third man was.

Hogan delivered two Big Leg Drops to Savage, ending the match in a disqualification. The crowd was in complete shock. Gene Okerlund entered the ring to get a comment from the former fan favorite, Hulk Hogan. Hogan goes on to say that they (Nash, Hall, Hogan) are the future of wrestling, and labels the group as, "The New World Order". This also signified Hogan's long run career of being a babyface had come to an end.
