A phishing scam involving a fake Vince McMahon Twitter account is currently making the rounds on the social media website.
The scam claims that the WWE Chairman and CEO is giving away $100,000 each to “some selected fan” and that it’s being done “for their support and love.”
It also asks the recipient to contact another individual via Google Hangouts in order to claim their $100,000.
Here is a screenshot of the message sent by the scammers, courtesy of WNS reader Brad:
The scam is similar in nature to ones recently involving actor Tyler Perry, in which multiple Facebook pages were created using Perry’s name and likeness claiming that he was giving away things such as money, cars, and houses. Perry has since released a video statement confirming that he isn’t giving anything away and urged his fans not to give any of their personal information to the scammers.
If you or someone you know comes across this type of message, you are urged to report it to Twitter immediately. Further, ore, do not give any of your personal information to the scammers.
