UFC has officially been sold for $4 billion.
Entertainment and sports talent agency WME/IMG will become the new owners once the deal is finalized within 6 weeks to two months. The sale took place on the same day as the historic UFC 200 event.Â
UFC President Dana White will remain as the president for the UFC while UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta is expected to step down as chairman following a transitional period, after which he and his brother, Frank Fertitta, will remain on as minority owners.
White is still expected to have a major role in the company going forward.
The Ferttita brothers purchased the UFC for $2 million in 2001. The sale of the company at $4 billion makes this the largest franchise sale in sports history.Â
