UFC and WWE fans alike have been waiting for CM Punkās debut into mixed martial arts, and it looked like it would come this summer. An opponent had even been picked for Punk when Mickey Gall won his debut over Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82.
But Punk wonāt be debuting this summer. According toĀ MMAFighting.comās Ariel Helwani, Punk will have back surgery due to a herniated disc.
āMy back has always bugged me,ā Punk told Helwani. āFigured it was just wrestling sh*t. Turns out it was.
āIt got bad enough to the point where I couldnāt do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldnāt. Iāve been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy ā¦ nothing worked.ā
This is at least the second delay for CM Punkās debut, having separated his shoulder in 2015. Punkās credibility in MMA was called into question by a section of fans the moment he signed with the UFC, citing a lack of experience in martial arts competition and crediting the move to his high profile from his WWE career.
