The original plan for AJ Styles during the 30-man WWE Royal Rumble main event this year was to have Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose eliminate him.

WWE at some stage changed this to Kevin Owens, which worked as they didn't really  realize the kind of reaction Styles would get going into the show, thus it was better for Owens to be the one causing Styles elimination from the match.
