Lucha Underground Results & Review 12/17/14

Coming to you from the Temple, we are welcomed by Matt Striker and Vampiro. Vampiro says Dario Cueto invited ten wrestlers to the ring. In the ring are Fenix, Drago, King Cuerno, Big Ryck, Prince Puma, Pentagon Jr. Super Fly, Son of Havoc, El Mariachi Loco, and Mascarita Sagrada. Melissa Santos introduces Dario Cueto. Cueto comes out wearing very big and thick sunglasses. Cueto says the ten wrestlers are in the ring because they are part of a truly epic event. Cueto says they are going to be involved in a ten way match. Cueto says there will be another ten luchadores match later this evening. He says each winner will be awarded with a unique, he then tells them to ring the bell.

Fenix, Drago, King Cuerno, Big Ryck, Prince Puma, Pentagon Jr. Super Fly, Son of Havoc, El Mariachi Loco, Mascarita Sagrada Ten-way match

The bell rings and chaos ensues as all the competitors merge in the center of the ring. They all jump on Ryck who pushes them all off. Ryck and Sagrada square off, Sagrada kicks Ryck in the back of the legs and he goes down to one knee. Ryck grabs Sagrada by the head and snaps him over. Sagrada kicks Ryck in the head but gets kicked down to the mat hard. Drago knocks Cuerno to the outside. Fenix jumps from the top rope and drop kicks Ryck to one knee. Then pentagon comes in and drop kicks Ryck again. Pentagon hits a move on Super Fly. Drago is launched to the outside by Pentagon Jr. and lands on Cuerno. We see Danny Trejo who Striker refers to as Machete. Back in the ring Sagrada gets beat up by Pentagon Jr. Sagrada does some spins around Pentagon Jr, then gets a mini back stabber from pentagon Jr. There are a bunch of high flying moves by all the Luchadores. In the ring Havoc and Puma have a great exchange of moves, putting on quite the show. Vampiro blames Konnan for Puma being back in the ring already. The exchange ends with Havoc flying to the outside after a head scissors, Puma then flies to the outside and takes out a group of wrestlers, then gets a high five from Machete. Back in the ring Ryck beats up on the smaller Luchadores. He gets a double dropkick from Puma and Fenix and falls to the outside. Fenix and Puma then attack each other in the ring. They exchange some high knees and kicks with Fenix getting the upper hand. Cuerno, Puma, and Fenix execute a tower of doom with Fenix getting the worse of it. Havoc goes to the top rope and jumps off with a shooting star press onto Puma, but Super Fly breaks up the two count. Super Fly attacks Havoc and gets a two count of his own. Drago attacks Super Fly they exchange some moves. Drago goes for the Dragons tail but Cuerno breaks it up. Cuerno hits a power bomb on Drago and gets a one count. A bunch of Luchadores are back in the ring and chaos begins again, the ring gets cleared out with just pentagon Jr. and Mariachi Loco in the ring. Pentagon hits a running muscle buster on Mariachi but only gets a two count when Sagrada breaks it up. Sagrada goes for a sunset flip power bomb on Pentagon and gets a one count. Puma kicks Sagrada and he gets a two count when Ryck breaks it up. Ryck hits a massive clothesline on Puma. The crowd chants this is awesome. All the Luchadores come back in the ring and they all begin to kick Ryck numerous times. Ryck rolls to the outside, Striker points out Ryck is the only one without a mask. Cuerno runs and dives to the outside taking out Drago. Super Fly and Mariachi fly to the outside as well, and then Pentagon Jr. follows, then Havoc follows Pentagon. Puma hits a 450 splash on Ryck but before he can cover he is attacked by Fenix who hits a tilt-a-whirl DDT. Fenix hits a pile driver and wins the match.

Winner: Fenix

The crowd chants “this was awesome”.

MY View: This was a very fast paced match with high risk moves all over the place. It was impossible to keep up with all the moves. I encourage you to watch this match on your own. There are once again many botched moves but they weren’t as noticeable because all the action. Son of Havoc was actually the most impressive here, they need to let him wrestle and stop putting him in gimmick matches. Sagrada and Ryck exchanging moves was just silly, and wasn’t believable at all. I am with most people when I say I was surprised that Fenix won this match.

Back in the Temple the next ten competitors are in the ring. Melissa Santos tells is this is a Boyle Heights Battle Royal. There are only nine in the ring, and then Chavo Guerrero makes his way slowly to the ring. Before the bell Sexy Star attacks Chavo outside the ring as the bell rings.

Cisco, Cortez, Johnny Mundo, Sexy Star, Pimpinela Escarlata, Mil Muertes, Famous B, Ricky Mandel, Bael, Chavo Guerrero.

The bell rings on all the wrestlers attack each other the eliminations are as follows. There is a William Regal reference by Striker and Vampiro snickers at it. We see the woman that has been coming down to the ring lately, the one Vampiro keeps calling hot.

1. Famous B is eliminated by Pimpinela Escarlata

2. Ricky Mandel is eliminated by the Crew (Cisco, Cortex, Bael).

3. Pimpinela Escarlata eliminated by Mil Muertes

4. Sexy Star eliminated by Chavo Guerrero

5. Cortez is eliminated by Johnny Mundo

6. Cisco eliminated by Chavo Guerrero

7. Bael eliminated by Mil Muertes

8. Chavo Guerrero eliminated by Johnny Mundo

The final two are Johnny Mundo and Mil Muertes as they argue in the center of the ring. Vampiro makes reference to Chavo losing again in a short period of time. Muertes and Mundo exchange blows and Mundo gets speared by Muertes. Muertes places Mundo on the ropes and strikes him, Mundo is standing outside the ropes on the apron. Muertes goes for a kick but Mundo catches it and tries to pull Muertes to the outside. Back in the ring Mundo hits some clotheslines and shoulder blocks. Vampiro keeps bring attention back to the woman standing in the crowd. Both men fight over the top rope and outside to the ring apron. They exchange punches and kicks. Both wrestlers get back into the ring, Mundo hits a big king and down goes Muertes. Muertes hits a clothesline and eliminates Mundo

Winner: Mil Muertes

My View: They are referring to Cisco, Cortez, and Bael as the “Crew”, and they worked most of the match together. There was no hype about who Bael was even though he made a huge entrance the week before. As I stated last week Bael was previously known as B-Boy. The match was ok; it was your basic battle royal.

In the ring are Fenix and Mil Muertes and Dario Cuetos Music hits. Cueto has a belt in his hands and says it the Lucha Underground Championship. He says he has created the most brutal and inventive match ever, he calls it “Aztec Warfare”. He says in three weeks the luchadore who survives “Aztec Warfare” will be his new Champion. He focuses on tonight and says congrats to Muertes and Fenix, but says there night isn’t over they still have one more match to fight. He says the winner of tonight’s match will have the unique opportunity to walk into “Aztec Warfare” last. He says the loser will be the first to enter “Aztec Warfare”.

My View: This once a huge announcement, it’s great there finally going to crown a champion.

Mil Muertes vs. Fenix

Back in the ring both wrestlers begin with trying to exchange moves. Muertes beats Fenix down to the mat. Fenix hits a spring-board arm drag, and Striker calls it high risk, high reward. Fenix runs into a huge elbow. Muertes and Fenix exchange blows. Fenix hits a drop kick from the tope rope as Muertes rolls to the outside. Fenix runs and does a cork screw dive onto Muertes to the outside. Both wrestlers get back in the ring Muertes hits a huge spear on Fenix. Muertes places Fenix on the ropes so Catrina can strike Fenix as Muertes distracts the ref. Vampiro again points out that a female is hot. Muertes hits a DDT on Fenix and gets a two count. Muertes hits a running power slam and gets another two count. Fenix hits a handspring elbow and knocks Muertes down. Muertes hits a power bomb on Fenix and gets a two count. Fenix hits a handspring cutter and gets a two count. Fenix goes to the top and jumps of right into a huge right hand. Muertes hits the flat liner and gets the win.

Winner: Muertes

My Vie:w: This match was ok nothing spectacular. It seemed you knew from the beginning who was going to win. Fenix was never believable to win over the unbeaten Muertes. I will say this when both men were standing in the ring Fenix is very close to the same size as Muertes.

After the match Catrina gives Fenix the lick of death. Going off the air Striker tell us the next Lucha Underground episode is 01/07/15. Before we go completely off the air we see Cueto in the back, he is holding the belt and says this is what he has always dreamed off. He says the gold in the belt comes from each of the seven Aztec tribes. He looks at someone off camera and says “I’m sorry I can’t let you touch it, I know how you like to destroy pretty things”. Now we officially go of the air.

Overall Show: The show was much of what we expect from Lucha Underground. Striker was better this episode, he is always better when he is serious. Vampiro needs to focus, I’m a man I don’t need him to point out a woman is hot; it makes him sound stupid and cheesy. Once again they referenced many WWE superstars such as HBK, William Regal, and Fit Finlay. I am sure Vampiro knows both Finlay and Regal from his WCW days. They keep bringing up the Aztec tradition and heritage which I think will add a little prestige to the newly formed belt. That’s all from the temple thanks for following along see you 01/07/15.

(I aplogize for the delay in this review. Holidays and health got in the way of being able to post this sooner)
